So the recent price increases in a couple items have me seriously doubting that I will be able to buy many of the newly released toys I want at retail. So from here on out it looks like collector sites and, ugh! auction sites may be the only resource I will have period.
2 examples that have me thinking my collecting habit will surely be cramped: 1) TF Universe deluxe class figures have sky rocketed from $7.77 at Wally World around Christmas time to $9.98 or so right after the 1st of January. Now last week they made the jump to $12.88! 2) GI Joe comic packs (even peg warmers) at Wally went from the ever steady $9.88 to now $12.88! I was just curious what everyone else thought or was strategically planning for their collecting future. ? any thoughts to share?

Honestly, I'm surprised CPs weren't more to start with. 2 figures that are normally $7 apiece and a comic that's normally $4. $12.88 i still a good deal, so I'll pay it, but I can't see them moving the old ones (Falcon/Nemesis, CC/Tripwire etc.) at that price when they didn't move at $10. Here's hoping for some clearance action!

yeah, I was collecting the DC Universe Infinite Heroes as they were $4.99 at Target ($3.99 on sale at one point), but Wal-Mart went up to $6.97 for a single pack and $16.49 for a 3-pack! Forget that! I just dropped the whole line.
Also, with vehicles at $15.99, comic packs at $12.88 and singles at $6.99 (they are $7.99 at K-Mart $7.14 at Target), I think my Joe-hunting will be curbed and I'll go more and more with e-tailers. |

Eh, I take it as just another sign that things in our economy are going to go from bad to worse in the very near future. Does that mean I am going to alter my spending habits as it relates to toys? Absolutely. I've already reduced my Joe spending drastically and have decided to not buy any TF or Joe figures from now on unless they're modern era reproductions of the figures I had as a kid.
The only toys I will continue to buy, no matter how high they get in price, is Star Wars figures. My nephews love them. I also love the fact that they enjoy SW as much as I do so it's money well spent. GI Joe and TF, not so much. |

It's more money I need to spend elsewhere or try to save that is cramping my Joe collecting. I was going a bit overboard with collecting - though I feel a little better seeing my collection dwarfed by some collectors on here.

I only collect Pittsburgh related stuff. For my son I get him GI Joe and Marvel stuff. With rising prices I don't get as much for him as I used to. Legends keep rising in Target and WM. So I've been getting the older waves from e-tailers.

These figs are dirt cheap for Hasbro to produce. Maybe a little more than 25 years ago, but still dirt cheap. Increasing their retailer cost is greed plain and simple. But, if people are willing to pay the prices, the hike is justified. Any higher though, we could see a crash in the industry. That may not be the worst thing in the long run....

Like everyone else that is what has brought my collection down to mostly Joes... I used to collect WWE, Marvel legends and DC but prices are just too high so my collection is Joe with occasionals of the others.
