I may have mentioned that my wife is now collecting toy cars. She's only interested in the El Camino and she's got about six of them so far including this year's Hallmark ornament.
Well I was able to find her most favorite toy car from her childhood pictured here and I'm giving it to her for Valentine's day.

An old Trek comic by Adam Hughes covered it really really well about it being two different species of Klingon. then DS9 had to f it all up by bringing back kang and other klingons from that era in full on klingon ridges. Worf's "don't ask" in the Trials and Tribbalations DS9 episode was pretty damn weak. I think the explanation falls into the mist along with Kirk's giant Enterprise in trek V

The answer was given in the last season of Star Trek: Enterprise with the arc relating to Dr. Arik Soong, an ancestor of Data's creator (Dr. Noonien Soong and also played by Brent Spiner) wherein he fostered a group of genetically enhanced children from 21st century (same time as Khan). Soong's plan was to use the DNA from the children to improve humanity, but one of the kids, having Khan like tendencies, modifed Soong's research into a viral super weapon designed to eradicate a Klingon planet near the edge of the neutral zone. Doctor Phlox was able to create a cure for the viral weapon, but it caused an immediate mutation in the planets Klingon population ... i.e. the lack of ridges. From then on, there was a significant portion of the Klingon population, those near the neutral zone that were more human looking. The Klingon Empire used these warriors in their earlier encounters with Star Fleet/ the Federation. |
