I had 60,000 cards in 10,000 count boxes, several binders, several decks and other singles in hard cases. Been playing since day one. Had 3 sets of Power 9 (one Alpha, one Beta, one Unlimited) Had a few extras of the nine, I played with and kept those. Had at least 60 Original Dual lands from Alpha to Revised. None of these cards were in the collection I sold, These were all sold individually as I could pull a better price for them. My over all collection including singles, sets and the lot sold for $6700 total. I was trying to not sell the collection as long as I could so, would sell singles here and there when I needed money. But the bills just out weighed my need to keep the collection. I also had several of unplayed sets in binders that I had sold. 12 sets all together. Beta, Unlimited, Revised, Chronicles, Legends, Dark, Ice Age, Alliance, Mercadian Masque, All 3 Urzas sets.
I don't think about them too much until I get to talking about the good ol days of tournament play. I have been in several Regional, National and 2 World Tournaments. But like you said.. they have changed so much of the game, I only play among friends now. Hell my DCI card was in the triple digits.. that's how old I am with this game. LOL

My only pull this week is Jurassic Park: Dangerous Games #5
I read Ghost Rider and Zombies vs Cheerleaders to, though

BTW, nice collection Dolf, I need shelves in my office now! Can't wait for an MU Domino!! I like most of those characters in that set. I think my new challenge may be to try to complete it as cheaply as possible! Quote:
I understand prefering Marvel to DC, but I always suspected that if a person followed one, he or she would have a general knowledge of the other. Or, if one collected MU, he or she would have a modicum of appreciatiton for DC. But except for a handful of people on this this thread the majority seems to like Marvel to the mutual exclusion of DC. Is it really so bad in your eyes? I think the stories are pretty much interchangeable. (I just think that DC thread here is as slow as MN).
1) The Marvel Universe is Grounded in the world I live in, New York, Great lakes, Stamford. I could NEVER relate to Star City, Gotham and Metropolis. (Which I still can't belive is in Kansas?) 2) It always seemed like the DC stories were one issue, the Joker wants to steal something, batman beats him up, the end. marvel to me always provided story Arcs that kept my interest across several issues and the continuity was easier to follow. More to come!

Marvel was the first to introduce not only the real world, but real world, everyday problems for their heroes. Spider-man wasn't a rich billionaire playboy, he had to go to school, get a job, pay his rent. He worried about regular issues we all deal with in a way that could never happen with Superman or Aquaman.

I always liked Marvel more as a kid for 2 reasons:
1) The Marvel Universe is Grounded in the world I live in, New York, Great lakes, Stamford. I could NEVER relate to Star City, Gotham and Metropolis. (Which I still can't belive is in Kansas?) 2) It always seemed like the DC stories were one issue, the Joker wants to steal something, batman beats him up, the end. marvel to me always provided story Arcs that kept my interest across several issues and the continuity was easier to follow. Ironically, for me, the fact that DC is more "cosmic," or at least closer to modern day myth, is the drawing point and why I do read DC more regularly than Marvel. I pretty much just read Marvel when there is some major cross-over event. Having said all that I follow Marvel on various wikis and synopses. Ultimately, that is my point, simply because I like DC, doesn't mean I don't want to have anything to do with Marvel. I figured everyone was kinda the same, and and was not prepared by the hostility (not here) that I encountered. Kinda like Coke vs. Pepsi, at the end of the day, I drink whatever is available. |
