Hasbro used its credit cards too much ... think some collector who charges all his pre-orders then buys high-end stuff like Veritechs from Japan and Side Show collectibles, but doesn't have enough in terms of actual assests to cover his debts. He may use his other credit cards to pay the credit card now due, but if all the debts come due at once, he will have to file for Bankruptcy to get out of paying them [with individuals Chapter 7 wipes out all the unsecured debit; but with companies they have to file Chapter 11 if the want to continue as an operating business, which means they will have to come up with a plan to pay back of the liabilities].

I did not know you collected Veritechs from Japan ;) Actually, I was just trying to make the info more relateable to collectors and came up with the most likely scenario. If I were going the BK route, months before I am going to file, I will max out all the credit cards with all the mad sh!t I could since my credit rating is gonna be killed with the BK anyway. I will have 1:1 figures of all the Marvel and DC females (Real Dolls) with the 100% accurate costumes |

Sure. But they are also a multi-million dollar company. They will be okay so long a someone keeps extending credit to them. So, I don't understand why, if true, Hasbro cannot all of a sudden pay factories in China or custom dues. For that to happen, their credit rating would have to take a major hit so that creditors would no longer think it can make payments. However, if that happened, Hasbro stock plummeting would be all over the news.

Interesting insight on the debt to equity ratio. I had missed that.
I wonder how badly hurt they are by G.I. Joe 2 being delayed.. It will be interesting to see second and third quarter results. |

I'm sure that the movie delay and subsequent cancellations totally killed their 2nd or 3rd quarter profits. Paramount walks away in the hopes of making $2-3 more each ticket with no real damage, but Hasbro gets screwed.

Raising their prices on all their lines has not helped. I hear parents in the toy aisles all the time saying they won't pay $9 for a figure they used to pay $6 for. Or they tell the child to wait for a sale. I've started waiting on sales myself. Just getting too expensive.
