I actually like most of the different versions of Darth Vader that have been released. I can't say that I pick up every one, but I get a lot of them, escpecially when there are decent upgrades/changes.
And I didn't like the Endor AT-AT as much as the original remastered Hoth one that was done a number of years back. |

I don't know how it is with the toys, but with novels and comics, nothing gets released with the Star Wars name without going thru Lucas' people.
So just because Dark Horse has the liscense, they can't release a Star Wars comic without it getting okayed by Lucas. I can see it working the same way with the toys. Hasbro can't release a figure/vehicle without Lucas' people saying "sure, go ahead". Lucas (by this I mean the company) isn't in the toy business. that is why they sells the licensing rights to toy experts who know it better than them, and they leave those details up to Hasbro. Lucas has nothing to lose with the release of their toys, because they've already been paid their guarantee and stand to gain royalties for every unit sold. if Hasbro wants to assume the risk of producing and selling an At-At, all Lucas cares about is their 10-15%. |

I was a huge Star Wars fan, but not as much anymore. I read the novels and that's about it. I limit the toys to anything Mandalorian (Jango and Boba Fett, Jado Kast, etc..), Wedge Antilles (my favorite character and I will always love Timothy Zahn for making him a major character) and specific clone troopers.
Does anyone have links to info regarding this stuff on the rebelscum site?

that's different. the books contain ideas that have to be approved, but the right to write the book has already been given. that is different than a toy. Hasbro already has the rights to produce toys based on the characters and events from Star Wars and those don't change or add to the mythos. they aren't creating new or original concepts. with that right in place, they can release whatever they want that falls within the realms of their licensing agreement. they may have to get the toy design approved, but when and how often they choose to release it is up to Hasbro. considering Hasbro has already released an AT-At, it is clear that their design and toy has been approved and they can release it.

there are risks on both sides. Lucas risks Hasbro will release bad products and will it diminish the value of the brand or even the interest. Hasbro assumes the direct financial risk of development and sales. but they certainly don't have to ask Lucas "can we release another Luke Skywalker again." if Hasbro is willing to incur that risk, that is on them. |

I hope if they do release the AT-AT that it is an updated mold. Maybe something along the lines of the BMF. I also want to see an updated Slave I with an actual cargo hold like the original. The last mold just didn't have much play factor. What good is the Slave I if you can't put your bounty in the back.

Star Wars is a huge collectors line, and Hasbro believes that collectors want figures of every character in every outfit they ever appeared in from the films. for the most part, that is true. some just may be less popular than others.

Hasbro takes questions and such from alot of Star Wars sites and listens to the wants and what nots. They also have the waves planned out about two or three years out. Yes I collect SW and try to keep up with what's coming out at least a year and a half in advance.

let's be honest, Lucas made a significant amount of his fortune by licensing Star Wars. in licensing, the licensees are extremely important and powerful, because they are the ones with the expertise in a given category and distribution. Lucas needs Hasbro to make the toys just as much as Hasbro needs Lucas to provide them the rights. the power isn't one way, so Hasbro wouldn't enter in to a contract that is one sided. they are provided a tremendous amount of leeway.
