The RID Walmart urban-camo Combaticons set is very nice indeed! And was under twenty bucks if I recall correctly. The Combaticons were some of my favs from G1 and I would buy a set with G1-homage artwork and deco for about $50, but not at nearly $100.
Now a completely re-tooled Bruticus set with deluxe limbs, a voyager torso, and heavy G1-deco influences, THAT would be a different story! |

I hope I can it cheaper than BBTS. For that price I could get the Wal-Mart Exclusive RID version on Ebay. I will try and get him since my birthday is in July...hmmmm...that gives me an idea.

G1 Thrust and Ramjet were con exclusives a while back, generic packaging with the character card in the window as the makeshift boxart/identifier. I would imagine the Seacons would be a lock, they are probably just waiting since TFCC just did the repaint of them. I don't know that the molds are still available for all the figs you mentioned and even then they are probably deteriorating and needing some fixes. It's up to TakTomy/Hasbro as to whether they'll spend the money to fix the molds/make new ones.
I'm pretty sure Sludge and Swoop's molds are busted or they would have done them in G2 with the others. After using the other 3 for G2 they might be in bad shape but who knows for sure. Before they did Soundwave for the bookstyle reissues they said his mold was not available. They took Soundblasters mold or reverse engineered or something but the point is they thought it would be worth it (profit wise) to put money into molds/engineering. Mirage/Wheeljack/Sunstreaker/Shockwave etc all have rights issues or the molds are gone. I'm not too knowledgable into what's still available since the ones you mentioned haven't been reissued or done otherwise since G2. Chinese KO factories can crank out the figs that TakTomy isn't doing and sell them for probably more than official releases would sell for. Less quality and more money doesn't make sense, but when the company that should be putting them out isn't, people will buy the closest thing to it when the original G1 prices are too much. The sludge and swoop were ko'd and mine are pretty decent, the only one I opened was swoop though cause I heard it had face issues and it kept falling off, mine was great. Also Mirage and Wheeljack were reissued by that chinese company. Mirage is actually better than the original 80's version. The whole looseness thing was fixed. So was cyclonus, snarl, reflector, scourge and devastator, I know the whole morality copy right thing argument but I can care less, if Has/tak won't give me what I want I'll go elsewhere to get it. However now that Takara is doing bruticus I'll certainly buy that over those big lots KO's. Sure I'd rather something official, but think about this, Hasbro is releasing a classics version of Bruticus which looks like a monstrosity, and Takara is releasing the encore Bruticus, most fans would want a Gen 1 product, aren't they essentially competing against each other? Now about those molds, I'm sure Takara at least see's the market for these things and Ill bet my two bottom front teeth they are hastily trying to make them before that chinese company does. Forgot to add one last thing. That alleged Shockwave reissue is disgusting, and you're right about rights issues, but Skylynx and Omega Supreme were rights issues too weren't they. What do you think Ms. Hump? Last edited by Blaster'spunchingbagg; 01-09-2009 at 07:00 PM.. |

I was super excited when I heard of this. But $95? Damn. Takara sure is taking a lot of pride in their product lately, aren't they?
Think I'll wait for the price to drop this time. I've been burned a few times too many lately on expensive Takara product only to see the price drop months later.

I don't know about Skylynx but I know with OS, after Tomy and Takara merged, the rights to OS were available since Tomy owned them. Toybox or ToyCo, something like that, owns the rights or mold for Shockwave and I thought they had acquired them or were going to buy them out.
By the way, tfsource added a preorder for the Combaticons for a little bit cheaper. I placed an order for them and the cassette 4-pack. |

Man, that is cool. I will wait and see if the prices drops a bit, though. It's a litle steep for me. I am sure I will regret it later, lol.

this is what cracks me up
"Safety Warning: This Product is for Adult Collectors. It may contain sharp points, small parts that are choking hazards, and other elements that are not suitable for children under 16 years of age. " I mean really now who in the hell under 18 is going to like this (mostly because kids around that age have no love for the old school transformers or never herd about them, besides us collectors) |

I don't know if Bruticus will see a price drop. Omega Supreme and Sky Lynx dropped but Metroplex is still up there price wise. Either way, that set is mine! Now where is Sixshot!
