First off, to those of you who do not own these, they are big. Big, big. See the pic below to see how they compare to one of the larger G. I. Joe figures, Copperhead. They are big.
Now that I have the fact that they are big established, let me say that I am impressed with these, particularly Beast-Man. I think Beast-Man is near perfect. The detail, sculpt, and articulation on him is great. The whip is no longer some flimsy peace of string, but has texture and durability. The detail on his armor is beautiful and brings it out in way that could only be imagined when we were kids looking at the vintage figure's armor. He is definitively classic Beast-Man. To compare him to the vintage Beast-Man is to compare the vintage Nemesis Enforcer or the Snow Serpent to the new one: it is much improved. He looks just like the classic character with much improved detail, articulation, and proportions. He-Man, on the other hand, is not as perfect. It is undoubtedly classic He-Man and, for sure, has some cool attributes. For instance, the sword and axe have nice detail. The sword and axe have even been painted/sculpted to resemble having "sharp ends." I love the way that he now has a place to keep either his axe or sword behind his back within his armor. His articulation is very nice as you can pose him in almost which ever position you want. His paint apps are also very nice. In some of the early pics, it looked like he was very shiny, particularly his face. But holding him in-hand, that is not the case. It's a great paint application. His face in earlier pics also showed much reddening, but in-hand, it is much more subdued. However, one of the small issues I have with this figure is his hair. The way that his hair has been applied/sculpted, it almost causes him to look like he's wearing a wig; not quite, but resembles it. His articulation points are also more visible than Beast-Man's, meaning that the lines and joints are more noticable than Beast-Man's, which distract from the figure looking as awesome as it should. I also believe his armor should be a little more expansive so that it could cover up the articulation point where his stomach meets his chest; the armor looks a little too small for his size, like he wore it before he took an extra dose of steroids a few days earlier. If this line continues, I wouldn't be surprised to see a bit "revised" version of him. Nevertheless, he's still a good-looking, classic update. Let me be redundant, though, and say that I think people who do not have these figures in-hand do not understand the size of these figures. It makes one think twice in regards to the complaints about the $20 price-point. Do I think they should be $15 instead of $20? Yes. But, after receiving them today and seeing their size, articulation, and detail, I'm now going to get all the classic characters. They will look great on my shelf and bring back serious nostalgia. And as far as the shipping goes, mine were not smashed and they were shipped "economy." Only the paper part on one corner of the He-Man was a little frayed. Moreover, the packaging itself is more vintage-looking that what the pictures lead to believe as well. Though the packaging clearly does not provide a lovelorn sense of nostalgia, you might be surprised how much vintage-esque it is once you have it in person. I didn't want to open mine. If you grew up on MOTU and love the classic versions, this update of the classics is the equivalent to the G. I. Joe 25th Anniversary minus the exact vintage packaging and with a little bit higher price-point. Last edited by RockinHard; 01-19-2009 at 10:50 PM.. |

thanks for the pics and review... been looking for a good one of these figs... any more pics showing off the articulation would be greatly appreciated.
I've flirted with collecting this line, but hot damn, 25th joes, TFA, TF:Universe? Sorry Prince Adam, can't do it.

the red around heman's eyes makes him look like he's going through withdrawals. Now the beastman on the other hand looks good.

The red is not as obvious in-hand. In fact, I'm looking at it right now, and it much more subtle compared to how it looks in my picture.

It is one half of the "Power Sword." Skeletor will come with the other half.
