About this time last year, the DOS figure(s) came out as a TRU exclusive. To bad it's not happening again this year. You'd think they could do a short run of the rest of the dwarves. I guess it's good we get a Smaug, but it would be better if it was at least as big as the Fell beast. Oh well. I'll say it again:
Death of the line.

The Smaug release just got pushed back from 12/9 to 12/29. Just like all the other figs of this line, Smaug is not going to happen.

I got a box from The Hobbit Shop today!!! I'm waiting until X-mas to open it, but I think it's Smaug. I guess they did have some figures available on 12/9/14.
Did anyone else get theirs? I'll post pics after X-mas.

After seeing BOFA, im so disappointed that this line failed. So many figure possibilities, so many troop building possibilities. BD just killed this line with their terrible repacking of figures. That hero's of Mirkwood set just killed the line. I quess we can hope a new company picks up the rights.

I just got my Smaug today. I can't remember being so disappointed in an action figure before, in large part because the total cost was $81. This is not even close to 1/18 scale. It isn't even worth removing from the package. I didn't expect it to be the size of Neca's Balrog, but at least have some more bulk to it for the price charged. Maybe I'm in the minority on this, but I really wanted more from it. In a way, Smaug the toy is a metaphor for the whole Hobbit toy line: so much potential, so little market for it.

Yeah, its totally out of scale. If they made it the same size as the LOTR Fell Beast, it could almost work with 1/18 figures. That had a 32" wingspan. I posted pics of the fell beast with the 1/18 figures about a page or 2 back. This thing only has a 22" wingspan. This Smaug would probably work best with the AOME LOTR smaller figures. Only problem is that I never collected AOME figures. Hopefully someone will post some pics of Smaug with some AOME figures. If it looks OK, maybe I'll get the Balrog set to place next to Smaug.

After finishing the movies, I really want all the dwarves. Oh well. It's a shame they couldn't get the whole line out. Doesn't look like there will ever be more movies.

The Hobbit Shop has Smaug on Sale for $59.46. They say that it is 15% off. I wonder if it will go down any more.

I paid full price and can tell you it is not worth even $20. I fully expect to see these on massive clearance at some point.
