So happy I'm stuck working a double today and am oncall the rest of the week. Oh Joy. Bet I add 3 pages to this thread tonight to stay awake. I'm sure NSA will be on soon enough.

This is one of the few places where 1:18 scale talk is fun and exciting. PCSGuy and I talked about this briefly. Over at small scale hq those guys are a mix between suicidal and obsessive. We've got a nice little sewing circle here. Everyone else on these boards about craps themselves when you mention that you don't like GI Joe vehicles.
BLAZFEMY! END OF THE LINE! My p-51 has the same thing going on with the droopy landing gear cover. Bastard 21st century. I've got the BBi BF-109. That is a nice aircraft. If 21st's selection wasn't so extensive they would never get my money. The nightfighter is nice, but it was missing one of the support struts. bastards...

QC was always one of 21st's weak points. I know i had to replace landing gear pins on one of my 190Ds.

Yeah SSHQ people seem a little... wow. I mean it's great that they love the hobby so, but yeah.
People here (this thread anyways) are pretty cool, we all love the 1:18, most aren't too NAZI (read: strict, not German) about it and we can all enjoy it Unlike.. *cough* PCSguy *cough* I still like my Joes j/k! I'll take a properly assembled Joe team over the FOV or BBI figures any day. Are they 100% real world accurate? of course not, but then again they are a highly trained special missions force! I dunno, Joe vehicles are good for nostalgia reasons, and occasionally they can fit in for odd jobs (especially COBRA, my thinking is COBRA gets all the weird $hit on the cheap and makes use of it for their evil aims). For instance I think the F.A.N.G. is GENIUS! An attack copter you could dissasemble and fit in the back of a truck? Sure it'd be easy pickings for an Apache or Super Cobra or F-18.. but COBRA isn't going to use them for head to head matches, they can truck in 5-6 FANGs to some civilian place and tear $hit up and get them packed away and out of town before the cavalry arrives.

And yeah, I like both 21st and FOV, sometimes it's nice having a vehicle you just open.. LOOKING NEW! You can add the weathering easier than trying to remove BAD factory weathering *cough* BBI HUMVEE(r) *cough*.
But I think FOV has the right pricepoint and distrobution, so I can forgive the details for toys I can HOLD instead of looking at a picture of a prototype that may, or may not, ever get to some online shop I then have to preorder to hope they secure enough product to then order them to then manufacture them and then maybe hopefully someday get it instock 3 years later *cough* King Tiger *cough*.

i use the fang for a patrol, a spotting, and a scouting helicopter in cobra held territory. Everything can have it's uses, but it just needs to look more real. I eliminate things like the CLAW though. My troops don't ride in on jet packs. That's where i draw the line... yep... that's where i draw it.

The FANG requires a little too much suspension of disbelief for me. Gyrocopter sure, but 4 missiles, a bomb and an 85mm cannon (where are they hiding the near 3' long shells for that thing? Not to mention the recoil ripping the airframe apart.) 197 mph top speed and a range of 55o miles. Yeah, ok. And what's up with the field artillery piece supposedly strapped to the side of the Dragonfly? Last edited by Konigstiger; 04-11-2009 at 11:10 PM.. |

I like the 1:18 stuff for my Joes. I'd like the Bbi figures better if they'd lose the t-crotch.

And what's up with the field artillery piece supposedly strapped to the side of the Dragonfly? Yeah, i thought about ripping the cannon off the front and turning it into a camera, or a FLIR thingy. I want to ditch the missiles and bomb, and build a cage for the cockpit like the one around the little engine. Might make it a bit more interesting.

I was thinking of converting a Flight Pod into an observation chopper myself.
But, yeah, the FANG works without the the armament, and the cage sounds like a good idea too. |
