I was basing this solely on vehicles. Hasbro was always more miss than hit, and alot of the continued "love" for them is nostalgia and blind devotion. Nothing wrong with nostalgic love, but some of the fanboying is ridiculous.
The Bbi Kiowa is loads more detailed than the 21st Huey, but there was a good 4 years in between their respective creations, and it's things only "rivet counters" would really nitpick. Facial sculpts by Bbi are better, as are their fine detailing, but they're t-crotch really hurts them. still, i can get interesting stances that i can't from modern joes ( or should say can't get quite as nicely) Plus, Bbi can make an in-scale Holster. Hasbro has been doing the scale for over 25 years and still fucks it up. In the end if it's PTE or better i can find a use for it. Hasbro can keep it's 12 releases of tired ass, fanboy love-driven molds. |

I agree about the detail, but FOV just nails "the look". Their desert Bradley and Abrams look more realistic out of the box than any other armor I've owned. bbi's looked like crap, 21st's Patton requires a paint job to rid it of the bright green and yellow. Only the 21C Bulldog looks like it could be better, but I've never seen it in person. As mentioned earlier, if FOV added the details, they would be the easy winner. Load your M3 up with stowage and modern troops and you will see what I mean.

You are right about the holster, when I first started getting BBI/21st figures, I couldn't figure WHY they made the damn pistols so small! Then I realized the Hasbro ones were WAY to big. I'm guessing this dates back to when Joes were for KIDS and kids tend to lose tiny parts. It's strange I don't like the BBI land vehicles (LAV/M1/"Hummer") but love the air vehicles. I suppose its partly due to the fact that there is more choice available with land vehicles compared to air, but it seemed like they put a lot more effort and detail into the planes/choppers.

FoV needs to do some thinking for themselves, and not redoing already released models.

Yeah I'll agree with most of that. I think if you are into GI Joe, FOR GI Joe and not necessarily the 'real life' military aspect, then the Joe (and Cobra) vehicles are more than adequate, just as much as a Star Wars vehicle or whatever. It's fantasy. I think Hasbro did a good job on the Mauler (and seeing the real-life version, they came pretty close) and a few others.

I don;t have any Bbi ground stuff, but i have heard that FoV's Abrams blows Bbi's away. I guess with ground stuff there are only so many models that you can make that can be reasonably expect to sell. Abrams, Hummer, Bradley and the LAV. FoV was going in the right direction with the Stryker, but shelved it, and i don't think an MRAP would make for an exciting vehicle for kids Last edited by Konigstiger; 04-09-2009 at 12:03 PM.. |

Either way, its (A) Affordable, and (B) you can add details after the fact, so those two together = WIN. And since 21st isn't putting anything out for a while, we'll all have to learn to love our FOV master

I agree with you.. as well! The coloring of the FOV vehicles (vs the BBI) is what initially sold me. I just wish they had the little details (like come with some accessories and/or stowage). Molded and painted stuff attached to the frame would be awesome too.

Agreed - I still like using my Joe figures, but I'd love to be able to find some accessory kits. Anyone have any of the BBi ones available?
