I guess it depends on your use. I picked one up for my kids and they love it, but if you're asking just for collectors' purposes I can tell you that I have seen several 'Tankers use them for staging photography. I forget who it is, but someone here with a huge custom colonial space marines collection posted a whole series of shots taken inside the command post building with his MTF-based colonial marines fighting off alien hordes. It did fine for a backdrop there. I have also seen more than a couple of 'Tankers have this building in their shelf display.
I will say though, that out of the box the surface is very smooth. Too smooth to just plop it into a diorama and have the exterior look real. Also, they pretty much just painted black stripes across the front of the building, so it looks strange as-is. If you wanted to texture it up and repaint it you could do a lot worse for a diorama building, for sure. And for $20 you got a NICE deal. I would buy a second one in a heartbeat for $20, but again, I'm thinking of my kids who would love to play with it. I'll step aside now and let other, more collector-oriented owners chime in... |

Stumbled on a PTE Battle Command Post on clearance at Big Lots for $20.00, so I bought it. Anyone have one of these? Is it better out of the box than it is in? I mean, in the box, it looks like it's just a facade and a bunch of accessories. Any insights/uses you've found for it will be appreciated. As it stands, IDK that I have a use for it...I think I'll donate to the family shelter.

Power Team Elite Review- Battle Command Post I put up a less than glowing review here: G.I. Joe Intel Ops: Power Team Elite: Battlefield Command Post Review I came to the conclusion that there was something lacking between the building's odd shape and mountain of non-specific accessories thrown in that just did not excite me...

Thanks for the feedback, gents--and for the links, Ruin. Much appreciated. Still undecided as to whether I'll keep it or not, but at least I have a better idea of what I got.

I like the command post building. I feels more full than the ruined building which is flat and only really works if pushed up against a wall. The command post has more depth to it. I like the rooftop upper level, as I feel you can put some gun sentries up there. Honestly, I don't utilize interiors to playsets too much other than to put some guys in the windows firing out. I had a diorama display set up years ago which had Cobra utilizing this building as their HQ while they took over a town. Throw some barricades and barb wire around it. Some gun emplacements (I used the Cobra versions of the Whirlwinds). I thought it looked pretty neat.

Hey everyone - just wondering how the power team elite and true heroes compare in quality? Is one better than the other?

Chap mei/true heroes stuff are 100% toys for kids. They are sturdy and solid and dont break easily. On the other hand PTE is more delicate and is like a cheap bbi-21st century toys... something between model and toy. In my experience, the quality differs from year to year and from toy to toy even between items of the same year and of the same brand. The quality wont be a problem. Both are good enough. I have tons of PTE and chap mei and never had any problem (I do handle them with care though), except one wheel from the ptew willy jeep "broke" without any reason... Its more about the design you like. 100% realistic=PTE VS "realist-ish"-"joe-style" = true heroes-soldier force Figures from both are crap though. (Except if you are into big bulky 5 POA figs... then chap mei will work for you.) EDIT: PTE has also limited variety in comparison with chap mei - true heroes - true legends - dino valley - animal planet etc ... where you can find a GREAT variety of vehicles, dio props etc. See for example a comparison between the A-10 of gi joe (cobra rattler) and the chap mei soldier force (the last IMO is of better plastic quality and construction in comparison with the 25th (I do have both) JoMi toys: Versus: 1997 GIJoe A-10 Thunderbolt and Soldier Force A-10 Air Strike PTE has also an A-10. Its huge! Its more accurate and realistic than the other two. Its nice and sturdy. Plastic quality is decent. It is like a decent knockoff model of 1/18 scale plane (like the ones bbi produces and go for $160 - $200 per piece). As you can see, is all about personal taste. Another example is the tank... PTE tank is a plain 100% realistic and real 1/18 scale abrams. It has working treads, its solid has quality plastic, opening hatches. Its more a model. Its inferior than the 1/18 scale bbi elite force abrams desert camo, which is now sold in toysrus. On the other hand chap mei's best tank is JoMi toys: Freedom Force Deluxe Battle Tank Playset also top quality plastic (like the old arah vehicles), solid and sturdy, smaller than the pte but bigger than gi joe mobat - same size with gi joe mauler. its a toy and not a model. (No working treads, oversized weapons, which fortunately can easily be swapped) Last edited by triant; 03-10-2016 at 06:32 AM.. |

Triant,
Thanks so much for the great information. I was wondering if you or anyone else can speak specifically about the PTE Aerial Rocket Helicopter and the PTE Infantry Fighting Vehicle. How do they fit in terms of scale to the GI Joe vehicles? |

The ARH (Dauphin) fits figures well enough but it's a little short on leg room for modern-era figs. It's about as big as the Tomahawk, though with less cabin space because of the configuration. Would pics with Joes help you figure scale?
