My son shattered his True Heroes Apache so I found myself at TRU pricing them. While I was there, I noticed there are two versions of it. Not just different versions, actually, but two completely different molds and probably manufacturers.
In addition to the Motormax one we're all familiar with, there's now one that packs more surface detail and has a bigger, but less detailed cockpit. The canopy is completely transparent like the Motormax Apache, but it has a frame/window surround detail molded into it. It also has what appear to be wingtip missiles along with the hellfires and rocket pods. Oh, and it's in the exact same True Heroes/Sentinel 1 packaging and sporting some of the same Sentinel 1 stickers...it does have a larger shark mouth decal located lower down on the fuselage. In some ways it's cooler, in other ways not so much. It's somehow a bit more realistic and more toy-like at the same time. The figures and guns are very Chap-mei-ish. After comparing the two side by side, I prefer the Motormax version. Anyway, long story short, if you've been wanting the Motormax Apache, but have been putting it off, I suggest you get one soon since this is probably a sign that they're being phased out in favor of this different mold. I suspect TRU is finished with Motormax as the F-22 has yet to reappear in stores. Last edited by SmokeBellew; 02-11-2016 at 11:17 AM.. |

Is it the set with the figures in all black? I just saw one of those last week and paid it little attention except to notice they changed the figures' color, but now you have me curious. I have an Apache locked and loaded waiting for my kids for next Christmas, but if the figures fit better in the new mold I might need to figure out a change of plans...
As you can see, it's a very cool helicopter but the figures don't fit in it very well...

I think the old one's superior, but I'm obviously biased because the custom was my first big project. |

That stuff is all cool, but man does it take up some room.

Stumbled on a PTE Battle Command Post on clearance at Big Lots for $20.00, so I bought it. Anyone have one of these? Is it better out of the box than it is in? I mean, in the box, it looks like it's just a facade and a bunch of accessories. Any insights/uses you've found for it will be appreciated. As it stands, IDK that I have a use for it...I think I'll donate to the family shelter.

I will say though, that out of the box the surface is very smooth. Too smooth to just plop it into a diorama and have the exterior look real. Also, they pretty much just painted black stripes across the front of the building, so it looks strange as-is. If you wanted to texture it up and repaint it you could do a lot worse for a diorama building, for sure. And for $20 you got a NICE deal. I would buy a second one in a heartbeat for $20, but again, I'm thinking of my kids who would love to play with it. I'll step aside now and let other, more collector-oriented owners chime in... Afterthought: If you are going to donate it, you might consider replacing the figures with some ME Joes you don't want or have duplicates of. This is what my son opened from Santa a couple of years ago:
