AMF- So in Indo are you getting the World Peace Keepers, Red Justice force or a line especially made for Indonesia.... if so I guess it would include a lot of boats and amphibious vehicles!

BBI Going out of Business? BBi is a subsidary of Blue Box which is certainly not going out of business as their baby toys are fairly common in Chinese toy stores (a massiviely growing business as China gets rich). It seems they are just focusing less on the 1/18 line.
- Blue Box Toys - Kinda of a shame as they make very detailed stuff, but its costs a lot and I guess there is a line between realistic and realistic enough, after all action figures are not models. |

I'm guessing it was probably a straight up jack move as China is all about copying what is successful. I'm sitting in my 20 dollar fake Nike Air Jordan's right now. Somebody working for the nike in China must have took the mold straight out of the factory because they are exactly the same as the authentic ones which I also have. As for JSI this company seems to be releasing a fair amount of new 1/18 stuff but I can't find any information about them at all. Does anyone have a link to their home page or maybe the company address from the back of some JSI products? |

Below are some pictures of the Chinese Hummer Copy, the Chumvee as we call it. There two types. The first and most is common is the BJ2022. This is a mid size vehicle half way between the classic Willy's Jeep / Russian UAZ 469 / Chinese BJ2020 and the full size Humvee. It comes in many variations and I see it everyday all over town.
The second and much cooler is the proper Humvee copy, the Dong Fang EQ2050. This is pretty much and exact copy of the Hummer only with a different front grill. Of course the Chinese claim it out performs the Hummer. Its funny how much western stuff China outright copies, and yet western companies still make almost everything in the PRC. I guess western businesses focus on branding and don't care so much about the copies, which will always sell for less, because if the price were the same then everybody would pick the original. Although the civilian version of the EQ2050 will sell for 100,000 USD in China. (Chinese are loaded and also like to use long numerical sets like EQ2050 whereas Americans like acronyms like Humvee) Also note how they even copied the fairly famous Humvee with snow treads. (Shame its a summer's day and there is no snow to be seen). Quote:
Not only that, but the Chinese reverse-engineered and are making their own cheap copies of the Humvee:
Humvee manufacturing in China - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia They have several variants, too. Thank you for your very informative post. I selectively collect the PTE line (mostly for its vehicles and buildings), and really like the price point. I had been to their website before, but had not found all the sites you list. Thanks again! |

While I'm hoping that PTE will release a Chinese Hummer with the re-styled front grill, in the mean time I'm probably going to get a 1/18 diecast of the EQ2050. I know that the 1/18 die-casts have trouble fitting 1/18 figures inside without some leg amputations but I guess it might be cool to have a Chummer for dios etc. Figures can still stand in the top hatch.
As you probably know Maisto produces a detailed die-cast of the actual Hummer. Well I guess if you're going to copy the actual Hummer, what the heck, copy the die-cast model as well. As you can see from the photos, apart from the Chinese front grill and lack of snorkel, its exactly the same as the Maisto version, even the camouflage! (They do the BJ2022 too) |

I was also interested to see if there were any links between JSI and 21st Century and was wondering how JSI got their molds.

On the one hand it seems like it would be interesting to see the factory with lines of JOE products etc but in reality is pretty sad, especially when you think about all the waste generated, damage done to the environment and robot like routines of the workers. But hey ho, I guess outsourcing keeps the West clean, even if China gets rich as by product. |

HainanManChina,
Where are you getting your PTE/Red Justice stuff in China? When I visited Shanghai back in Nov 2012, those PTE toys disappeared from the TRU in Shanghai. I got my last set from taobao. Then again, I didnt go searching in detail in Shanghai as it depended on the wife where she wanted to go. Is there a particular Chinese toy store chain?
