Just picked up a couple A-10s off of eBay for a good deal. I already had one that I bought from a tanker that was customized to look like a Rattler, so it's nice to get a couple 'fresh' examples

We are all familiar with PTE's World Peace Keepers line and that in different territories (US/EU/CA/AUS) there are slightly different releases (I pity the fool who ends up stuck with a Rocket Attack Helicopter with no rockets). You will also know that in recent years they have added a range of Chinese vehicles to their line up. This may seem odd but was a smart move on M&C’s part because the Chinese versions were made for the growing demand in China for decent toys.
If you’ve ever been to a Chinese toy shop you will appreciate how much of a gap in the market there is. Unless you like a remote controlled car/helicopter or a bad copy of a transformer then there is no choice. That was until the arrival of the Chinese Peoples Liberation Army’s ‘Red Justice Division’ (版正义红师). The idea of Red Justice Division is similar to World Peace Keepers I suppose, whether dishing out hot plates of Red Justice or World Peace Keeping it seems that a lot of weapons and tanks are required. I suppose both names are better than ‘Aggressive Hired Killers’. Apart from the packaging the vehicles are exactly the same. Currently more vehicles are available for the Western market than for the Chinese market. Despite appearing on the card backs oddly missing from the Chinese market is the Chengdu J-10 but I guess like Apple, why release all versions of the IPhone at once when you can make more money doing it step by step. Oddly included are American vehicles such as the Hummvee, Willy’s Jeep and Blackhawk. Then again the PLA is already producing an actual copy of the Hummer and weren’t the blueprints for the Blackhawk hacked recently? The often hard to find Sukhoi Su-27 is released in China for the Red Justice Division as the Shengyang J-11 which is understandable considering the J-11 was pretty much an exact copy of the Su-27 (just as the J-10 was a copy of the Israeli IAI Lavi). The only vehicle for the line unique to China is a white version of the Type 92 APC. The base mold is the same as the camouflaged Type 92 but the turret and main gun are slightly different. The Chinese version of the patrol boat also has a different paint scheme but the mold is the same. The figures are different from their Western counterparts in that they have Chinese head sculpts, which makes sense as they are made for the Chinese market. The detailing is pretty good and they have removable helmets. With a bunch of these guys you can set up a dio of a possible WW3. Having more or less given up on marketing in the West (it’s hard to get a better back story than GIJOE) the Red Justice Division have their own cartoon (sort of) and a pretty well maintained website. Hopefully the line will grow because I really M&Cs products, especially the vehicles. Useful links Red Justice Division homepage (bizarrely still World Peace Keepers.net) ?-?-????? M&C Homepage = M & C TOY CENTRE LTD Show room = M AND C TOYS CENTRE LTD UNIT 813 8F PENINSULA CENTRE 67 MODY ROAD TSIMSHATSUI EAST KOWLOON HONG KONG. (You can visit but should dress like a rich Oil Baron from Texas and pretend to be interested in containers worth of toys) List of products available in China ?-?-????? ‘2 out of 5 diamond rated’ seller luosl_sky based in Guangzhou sells the full range on Chinese amazon/ebay. Can’t ship outside China but interesting to see the prices etc. ÕýÒåºìʦ-¹ãÖÝÊÐì÷î£Ã³Ò×ÓÐÏÞ¹«Ë¾-ÌÔ±¦Íø Su 27 / J 11 1:18 |

Not exactly sure which board this fits in but anyhow I want to do a quick summary of PTE in China for anyone interested so here goes.
Background first..... So as we know, the popular Power Team Elite (Pte) ‘World Peace Keepers’ are 1/18 scale figures produced by M&C Toy Centre Ltd based in Hong Kong (HK). In fact most 1/18 companies other than Hasbro have their headquarters in HK, including Lanard, Toy Island and BBI. 21st Century Toys also sources from HK and has offices there. All manufacturing is in nearby Dongguang, China’s toy city (don’t get any fanciful ideas, it’s not Disneyland but a polluted wasteland full of plastic factories) Similar to Lanard, M&C produces a range of toys for all ages and genders. While Lanard has The Corps! M&C offer us Pte World Peace Keepers. Both use the same strategy of producing low cost mass appeal figures and vehicles in 1/18 and sometimes 1/6 scale. BBI and 21st Century struggled because they were more or less making models that only appealed to collectors rather than toys accessible for all. Since getting sued by GM for violating IP rights for copying GM’s Humvee, the vehicles for The Corps! have become less realistic as license rights have been given to other companies such as M&C, which is why the vehicles for the Pte range look so realistic. I suppose a topic for another thread would be ‘where do you draw the line between display only model and toy.’ I guess there is such a thing as realistic enough and that’s what Pte goes for. Add to that the fact that the prices are low because they use fairly low quality plastic and designs that are incredibly efficient with minimal use of screws and unnecessary unseen detailing and you have a winner. |
