After that, they seemed to only be available overseas. If i may venture a thought as to why, in the last three years or so, there have been a lot more cases of lawsuits based on replicas of military assets. Before, it was always seen as "homage" and positive advertising when companies used a jet or tank or Jeep's likeness in a toy. But more recently, even military manufacturers are catching on to the fact that they can licence out their weapons of war for toys and replicas. In the model kit world, there have been lawsuits from manufacturers(I remember specifically hearing about one on behalf of Lockheed), pursuing model kit producers who breach their copyright. Even toys are not immune/ So perhaps it was a similar issue. And the settlement reached stopped the A-10 from being sold in the US? It seems Hasbro was clever in the 80's and 90's by making jets that were only visually similar(Rather than a panel by panel replica). |

I remember that. I was in Vancouver in 2008 and saw one for sale in a TRU store.

The defence maufacturers should be worried about the real threat to their copyright: the chinese arms makers. |

The "real" threat to your copyright is anyone who tries to infringe it. The burden of defense is on the copyright holder.

Yep. Stopped by today and saw the towers, boats, little bird helicopters, tanks, various figs and the fast attack vehicles.

This is fascinating and dis-heartening at the same time. Granted defence manufacturers have the right to copy protect their work. But I thought this was generally applied to cheap chinese knock off arms makers selling to the third world. Not to toy and models manufacturers.
Anyone who breaches copyright is breaking the law. I am not taking sides. It would seem that, based on the fact it's next to impossible for the A-10 to be found in the US, the end result was an agreement not to sell the craft in the US. It's still sold elsewhere(As i said before, i have a store five miles away that gets them in for me), just not in the US. Of course, if anyone wants an A-10 and can send me a new skystriker in return, then we'll all be happy... |

If memory serves, the reason the A-10 was discontinued from TRU - and perhaps why the planes from this company many not be stocked in US stores in some cases - was due to the materials used in making them were thought to be toxic for children.

Besides, I think the story goes that it was lead in the paint on the figures that was the problem. Just so we're clear, it's not a problem. |
