Seems like AFA has changed their "Modern" grading scale a bit. They now have a 9.25 & 9.75 grade. The new scale also does NOT use sub grades. What do you guys think? Do you like the changes?
Regarding the AFA Modern Grading Scale AFA now recommends our Modern Grading Scale for all toys produced from 1995 to present. This scale has been designed to better rate the miniscule flaws which can differentiate newer and case fresh toys from one another. The AFA Modern Scale is a 10 point, single-tier scale developed to better gauge toys produced recently by offering additional high grade options for AFA’s expert graders to choose from. The grades of 8.5, 9.0, 9.25, 9.5, 9.75, and 10 will be the most common grades for figures straight from a factory case. Under this new scale, AFA will be able to further separate items with small production and packing flaws from one another. Decades down the road, it very well could be that by collecting only high quality graded toys, a collector could better ensure that his figures would still represent true rarities within the collectible toy market, thus maximizing the potential of these toys providing a great return on investment. NOTE: Customers who would like modern items graded on the 3-tier scale can have this done for the same cost as the modern scale through 01/01/2009. However, this Special Request must be noted on your submission form or your modern items will be graded using the newer modern scale by default. |

I dont like the huge label that they use on these. I perfer the smaller classic label, if they had the smaller label I wouldnt mind but I like the cases they come in and the large label is an eye sore.

I think the whole thing is a big scam.
Look at the price of AFA vintage Star Wars figs, you could buy a car for what people ask after getting them graded. Sometimes you can get actual one-of-a-kind Hollywood movie props auctioned more reasonable than a figure that Kenner made millions of. Example: About 3 years ago Lucasfilm actioned off an actual film-used ESB Vader helmet on Ebay and got around $35,000. Go on BriansToys.com (I know they overprice everything but still look) they've got a AFA 75 Obi-Wan for $14,999, that little sticker seems to give people the right to ask anything they want. I have tons of MOC figs that I'm sure would triple in value if I sent them off and "paid" to be graded, but I'm not gonna fall for it. |

I agree these grading companies are a rip off!!!! SCAM SCAM SCAM, I mean who the hell are these people anyway to say whats mint and whats not, anyone who has been collecting for a while can tell that....why do we need them? and those who can't tell the diff shouldn't be collecting in the first place, or deserve to pay out thier A!$ for something.

The people that come out smelling the best on the grading issue are the graders themselves...end of story! Just wish I would have thought of it....lol!!
