Star Wars toys go up, cuz there are no new movies coming. When the fig's come out in movie years, the fig's were around 5 bucks, at WM, buck and some change more at Target and K-Mart. That's been the trend since Episode I was released. Once ROTS left and the next wave of fig's were ready, the price went up. Had nothing to with toy recalls.

Another thing to consider is that, though there may not have been much in the way of major changes instituted yet, toy companies are likely anticipating that changes are coming. Any major regulatory bureaucracy (the U.S. government, particularly) will necessarily move incredibly slow for logistical purposes, even when public outcry is very high.
So, its really easy for Mattel, Hasbro et. al to use anticipated future costs as an excuse to pass on these "costs" to us, even though they are yet to be felt. And if this means that, in the short term, toy CEOs get their pockets padded a bit, well, who gets hurt, some measly parents and collectors making 25-30 grand a year? Ha ha ha! Cobra commander would approve of this operation! |

the overall point though is that prices go up....PERIOD. whether its sw toys, tires, hair gel, pencils......prices rise....we pay. there arent alot of products that have died do to price increases and a consumer unwillingness to cough up difference from last week, last month, year, decade. |

lets be honest...its a VERY rare occasion, that ANY price of ANYTHING goes down. have you stopped buying gas? milk? health insurance? hell, i remember when $3 at taco bell would buy a proper meal. when its things we NEED--gas, milk, health insurance--we bitch and find a way to pay. when its things we WANT--action figs, movie tickets, etc, we bitch and find a way to pay.

i wonder if cost of living is being factored into this? regardless as long as this increase is actually going into quality control and not lining some executives pockets then fine whatever. it was boud to happen eventually right?
