My wife is not happy with my collecting, but I don't ever try to hide things from her. Her main issue is all the other things we could have bought for the house. We each have a monthly budget for discretionary spending, but I've been going over it in the last couple of months, so that hasn't helped.

I'm single right now, but my last gf didn't mind what I spent. In fact, she would help. She went to France and when she got home, I met her at the gate. She was holding a bag and couldn't wait to give it to me. Inside was an unpunched MOMC Princess Leia Cloud City Figure for my vintage starwars collection. Awesome piece

My wife tolerates my collecting and spending. Since we share the bills, we set equal spending "allowances" and can't care less what it is spent on. She contributes to the collections on b-days and x-mas if she can because she knows it makes me happy. For our first anniversary, she suggested driving from Ohio to Minnesota for the JoeCon. Even though we were short on money, she MADE me buy a Defiant and some convention figs. What a wonderful woman.

My wife is outstanding in this regard (and many others, for the record). Every single time she goes to TRU, Target, or Wal-Mart, she looks for Joes and calls me to update the situation. She doesn't care what I buy as long as we are financially secure. We pool our money together and get a monthly amount to spend, which we both usually go over on. She buys expensive makeup and other stuff, which I am totally not "into", but it makes her happy and she feels better about herself. That is all that matters. To me, Joes make me happy, so she is totally supportive.

Honestly, my wife has low self-esteem issues and we have this discussion at least once a year. When she met me, the knowledge that I collect comic books and action figures was well known. Through the dating phase to our current marriage I have scaled back what I've collected so we could afford a car payment and house, and when asked I can show her on paper the changes and reductions I've made.
As of this year I pay 80% of the bills including the mortgage, the credit card debt reduction program, insurance, taxes, utilities, cable and save up to buy figures when I have free time. The wife pays for food, gas and cellphones since she uses the cells more than I do. Her arguements center around issues of space yet will set bags of merchandise from her shopping excursions all over the house. When we pick everything up, the house amazingly still has a lot of room. I do have to remind her that the wedding ring, the engagement ring, and the promise ring are all on her fingers and not on my stuff/junk/crap downstairs but thats when she has a bad day and wants attention. Personally, I feel she just wants to find something to nitpick about, as a form of torture that does not comply with the geneva convetion; however, push comes to shove I can quote receipt and verse on our spending habits and who has self-control. |

Well we are saving for kids/future. Goodness we have a lot saved but if that causes fewer headaches later...I'm cool. I usually buy what I want and probably spend close to $200/month on toys. I myself even feel guilty about the massive pile in my office's closet. I guess that is the 'adult' in me. From the wife's side I guess it's 'why so much', 'what are you going to do with it all', 'do you really need that'. She doesn't really have a hobby so when I buy lots of stuff I think she is left out. All our bills are paid....money in the bank... It's tricky! I'm rambling a tad but man when that Target super playset comes out I'll need to buy some flowers or something ahead a time. I think with some wives it may come down to 'why are our husbands spending their money this way!'
