Thankfully my experience last night at Wal-Mart was peaceful. I only went to see if they would restock Joes (the first time in my life I have actually gone to a store late at night to await a restocking of anything!). There were some other middle aged guys patiently waiting for the SW stuff. When they were partly done stocking they must have given the okay as the guys started going thru the pegs. There was a Joe box of vehicles in front of me that was still sealed so I patiently waited till one of the employees had a breather and asked if they were going to restock any Joe stuff tonight. She went ahead and opened the box for me as well as another one on the pallet.
I looked back over at the SW collectors and they are still peacefully going thru the pegs, even helping each other out! Then two guys and a girl walk up and say they will wait in line (behind me). I told them people are already going thru the stuff so help themselves. They went over and it wasn't that much longer that one guy was going thru the stuff and handing them over to his wife! She is standing there with about a dozen SW figures in her arms! A bunch of teenagers walked by and asked what was going on. I told them that this was the curse of living in the '80's and what happens when you get older. Overall it went very smoothly and I commend the collectors who were there and made it a peacefull one! |

HA! I just read Destro's story. Way to go, man. You da hero! If he really had no idea those were in the back, then he needs to be fired. But I'm guessing he was just being a douche, for whatever reason. Again, kudos to Destro for being the hero of the day!

Yeah, pretty surprising that amongst a mob of Star Wars collectors, the one who was also a GI Joe fan was the only one bright enough to check the DPCI, huh? ;)

[QUOTE=NateR;219743]Not much madness at my local Wal-Mart. I was the only person there and I only bought the new Darth Vader for me and Yarna (the 6-breasted dancer) for my brother.

Nice going Destro.
I skipped the event this time as I already saw the figs at target 4 days ago. Meh. The sith event was fun and scary if I may share. My bro and I were about 20th in line. When we got in it was a mad house. Hundreds of figs crushed on the floor, giant men trying to carry 20 figs (no carts were permitted) and still trying to fight each other for more. People got hurt. Employees were scared. It was insane. With the cash I made selling sith posters and trailers while waiting in line I got the grievous unleashed and my bro got his first lightsaber. Then those figs clogged the shelves for a year, haha.

OKAY, so i was a rabid star wars collector and fan during 1996 through clone wars, kind of cooled off during revenge of the sith, then in when gi joe came back in full force back in 2001 i kind of lost interest in star wars toys and sold most of the ones i had. don't get me wrong i still am a huge star wars fan and know the original trilogy dialogue by heart. but i am wondering is this new cg clone wars movie going to be something really special star wars wise, or just "okay". i know a lot of you are star wars fans so i thought mabee someone would have the inside track on the movie and the toys. keep in mind i saw PHANTOM MENACE in the theater 8 times, but now it is probably my least favorite star wars movie. so i wonder if this movie is really great if it will spawn future cg star wars movies, i have always hoped they would adapt "SHADOWS OF THE EMPIRE" or "THE THRAWN TRILOGY" to film even in cg form. so i am wondering if "clone wars" could be a lead in to more coolness as well.

I just got back from Target, what a mad house that was. I was 5th person inline out of 10 people. Everybody in line was a HardCore StarWars Nerd (except me). I only went to pick up the AT-TE that is going to be turned into a Cobra Vehicle.
So everybody got to the toy section and went for the endcaps where the Target exclusive figures were. They had 5 out and we gone at light speep. Then the fun begins...... The Main toy Isle that should have been full was completely empty! All of the StarWars Nerds were pissed including me ( I also am a nerd just a G.I. Joe Nerd) and wanted blood. So they ask for the Manager and he comes over to talk to the crowd. Why are you out of stock on all of the Clone Wars items? Manager... We are limiting what people can buy, and what you see on the end caps is all we got in. The Angry Crowd.... Stars to let out some serious nerd anger on this guy, who to me was being a huge dick and showing no respect to his customers. So one of the fans started asking questions (A Fire Fighter in this local town in uniform) Do you have any in the back? Most of this stuff was never put on the shelf and its hard to believe you did not get any in. Manager..... Starts to go into thats all we have, nothing is in the back and we are limiting what people can buy to 1 each, all while having a shit eating grin on his face. The crowd..... We are fine with 1 per person but where are all of the other figures and vehicles? Now while all this was going down I was writing down the DPCI numbers for the AT-TE and the other stuff people were asking for. So I finally got done with the DPCI numbers and went up to the crowd and the Manager (who was standing next to a DPCI look up box) and started in on this guy! Destro---So your sure you do not have any of these instock and there are none in the back? Manager---Yes, sir we put it all out.. Ok lets see---I started typing in DPCI numbers for all of the "Missing Out Of Stock Items" and what do you know, Everything is in the back. Manager---The most red faced person I have seen in a long time, starts to get on his walkie and acts like he is having people check the back room. Guy In Back.... yeah we have 3 pallets of StarWars marked July 26th Manager... Starts aplogizing to everybody and gets his people to bring out all 3 pallets. Happy Crowd of Fans (No Scalpers) thanks me and gets everything they came for. So it took me 45 minutes to Pry my AT-TE out of my Local target but it was worth it to see these guys get their fill for their collections. End.... |

I'm not a SW's fan and eagerly await the day it just goes away, but I think CG movies are the next phase of SW's storytelling. considering the connection between animation and children, and Lucas' interest in appealing primarily to 5 year olds, it is the perfect avenue to continue to tell stories for that universe.
