I wish Hasbro would release something saying "Ok Yellow Stalker is a Variant"......"Firefly with two left hands is a screw up". It would stop these punks on Ebay selling every little mis paint App as a variant.... Example.... http://cgi.ebay.com/GI-JOE-25th-Vari...QQcmdZViewItem |

I know some of you say the original line used parts over and over and i do recall The first wave in 82 did and some of 83.....but if I recall after that it seemed to be new molds (mostly)........could you give examples of some reused molds not from 82, 83, Tiger Force, Python Patrol.....but from 84-87.........please?
I want examples of new figs that reused parts...not repaints of the same Character......Even Roadbloaks 2nd fig got a new sculpt......... 84 http://www.yojoe.com/action/84/ # Baroness # Blowtorch# Duke # Firefly # Mutt & Junkyard # Recondo # Rip Cord # Roadblock # Scrap Iron # Spirit # Storm Shadow Vehicle Drivers # Copperhead # Cutter # Deep Six # Thunder # Wild Weasel # Zartan These look to me to be all new molds... 85 http://www.yojoe.com/action/85/ # Airtight # Alpine # Barbecue # Bazooka # Buzzer # Crimson Guard # Dusty # Eels # Flint # Footloose # Lady Jaye # Quick Kick # Ripper # Shipwreck # Snake Eyes # Snow Serpent # Tele-Vipers # Tomax # Torch # Xamot Vehicle Drivers # Crankcase # Frostbite # Heavy Metal # Keel-Haul # Lamprey # Tollbooth Mail-Ins # Sgt Slaughter (mail-in) All look new to me....... Series Five - 1986 http://www.yojoe.com/action/86/ # B.A.T. # Beachhead # Dial-Tone # Dr. Mindbender # Hawk # Iceberg # Leatherneck # Lifeline # Low-Light # Mainframe # Monkeywrench # Roadblock # Sci-Fi # Viper # Wet Suit # Zandar # Zarana Special Missions: Brazil # Claymore # Dial-Tone # Leatherneck # Mainframe # Wet Suit Vehicle Drivers # A.V.A.C. # Cross Country # Lift-Ticket # Motor-Viper # Serpentor # Sgt Slaughter # Slipstream # Strato-Viper # Thrasher Mail-Ins # The Fridge Thay all look new to me.........and this is after looking at the YoJoe Pics..... And after going back alot of the 83 Joes look new and not reused parts...... Series Two - 1983 Series Two - 1983 # Airborne # Destro # Doc # Gung-Ho # Major Bludd # Snow Job # Torpedo # Tripwire Vehicle Drivers # Ace # Cover Girl # H.I.S.S.Driver # Viper Pilot # Wild Bill # Airborne # Destro # Doc # Gung-Ho # Major Bludd # Snow Job # Torpedo # Tripwire Vehicle Drivers # Ace # Cover Girl # H.I.S.S.Driver # Viper Pilot # Wild Bill After looking at all the pics from what i can tell and I could be wrong.....none of these look like reused molds.....please feel free to correct me with the figs name and what parts were reused.......and please let it be more than a lower arm and the rest of the figure is brand new.......I want examples as in something like the Major Bludd we got or the constent reuse of the Snake Eyes Body...............Discuss among yourselfs...... And because Im tired of Copy/pasting 87 http://www.yojoe.com/action/87/ looks mostly new 88 http://www.yojoe.com/action/88/ looks mostly new (I said no Tiger Force) Even 89 http://www.yojoe.com/action/89/ looks new to me......... Obviously a lot has changed in 25 years. I imagine that Hasbro out-sources the actual production of these figures to a smaller Chinese company. Therefore, how many Hasbro employees are actually over in China going over every single figure? Most likely a representative from the company on a visit every now and then.
In regards to the re-used parts, most companies are forced due to the mercy of the bean-counters. There are so many costs including R&D, mold production, energy (oil), and tariffs (bringing the product from Asia) put into the equation. I mean, look at the Justice League animation figures. They're literally all the same body with changes. Its just a sign of the times. While the GI Joe line may look like a huge hit across the board, it probably isn't. It was supposed to be a homage to the original line and a good way for Hasbro to give something to the fans. Without a major movie, cartoon, or something tied to the line, the expectations for sales were probably not high. And then they had problems keeping what product they had on shelves. So the individuals in charge of the line probably had to scramble to keep interest in the line and convince Hasbro Execs this could exist without having some form of media drawing consumers in. Thus, another reason why we see re-used molds. Throw in trying to convince big-market Brick and Mortar stores that these will sell and you have another problem on your hands. I suppose the problem of seeing re-used parts and minor glitches in quality are something we are going to have to live with. In addition, the original 13 Joes used the same molds. I actually liked that because the Joe team looked uniform. Once the line took off, especially with a comic book, cartoon, and licenses, the budget over at Hasbro increased to whatever the design team wanted/needed. With that in mind, the big pink elephant in the room nobody is looking at is the GI Joe live action movie. If it does well, we will see an ungoldly amount of Joe product (movie and classic). If it flops, I'm afraid it could extinguish what resurgence the line has going for itself. Last edited by CobraBlue; 06-10-2008 at 10:30 AM.. |

well regardless of all this my ultimate point is that yes look at the original stuff from the old days. Yes i knwo bean counters and big biz are more than likely responsible for the lack of individuality in the line and i understand that we "should" be happy we have these figures and i am. And maybe for some the lil small details thgat made these characters individual don't matter but to others it does. I am one of those it does. Its why i loved the line as a kid. They were different molds for damn near every new character (sans lines like tiger force night force etc) after the original 13 joes were release. And yes as the consumer i do have the "right" to demand better quality from these companies. We all as consumers do because without us these companies have no money. So yes i will demand that hasbro make these changes because while i do like the joes being brought back out i HATE the way they are being butchered all for the sake of a quick buck. and like a previous poster had put up compare the original line after the inital 13 to the current line. There were new molds being cranked out left n right. Sure there were reuses but not NEARLY as rampant as it is today.

Hasbro has done a good job listening to the fans, even if the changes come about slower than we like. but the part reuse is here to stay, and quite frankly works in this line, so I don't see it as a problem. if I did, I wouldn't buy them. |

Sure, there were more new molds in 1985, 86, etc...but oil was much less expensive and GI Joe ruled the boys action figure world. It had a cartoon, and a comic accessible to children, and much less competition from computer and video games. Sure, they were there but not nearly as ubiquitous. It ain't gonna be like 1985 again, and all your self-righteous whining is not going to change that OR win you any fanboy medals.
