I stopped into Walmart, between TRU and Target, to check out the Joe situation (which was NOT happening, by the way), and there was a girl on her cellphone, rifling through all of the Star Wars figures, telling her significant other which figures were there, and describing the packaging ("Some of these have coins in them..."), and, while I had to laugh to myself over the situation, it kind of warmed my heart.
My girlfriend got me back into collecting Joes - I had been sticking with bbi's Elite Force 1:18 line, and saw the 25th anniversary Joes out. I thought they were awesome, but restrained myself from having another line to search for. Well, for christmas, I get 2 of the initial 5-packs and several single carded Joes, in addition to the Elite Force Apache and M1-A1 Abrams. She's been kicking herself since, but I'm so glad she opened the door back to my Joe collecting. |

My wifey bought me two Vipers on Friday. For some reason, she digs the search and will be joining me at con this year.

You guys are lucky. My significant other hated me collecting. When she first saw the star wars collection she was freaked out bad. She did buy me a battle pack last year and that was it. Truth be told I would rather have her than the toys but that is out of my hands now. Oh well, time to go on the hunt for more Joes.

My fiance was very supportive of my hobby. She may not have approved of it, but she never let me know it. She was always there for me, to listen to me blabber on about a new figure even though it was obvious she couldn't give two poops.

My wife is less than thrilled with my collecting. She will look at what's at Kroger when she's there, but I have to ask her specifically each time.

I'm pretty lucky. My girlfriend looks for toys for me, and even bought me several 501st troopers when we first started dating. She even puts up with me displaying toys all over the house! I thought she was going to freak when I got the Terror Drome, but she actually liked it! She told me I had to get her some Girl Joes to go with it, so I promptly got her Lady Jaye and Scarlett. They now ride in the A.W.E. Striker.
But to add to the original post here, I was with my girlfriend in Wal-Mart one day when we had just passed the Joes a guy and his girlfriend started looking at them. This was when the cobra Airtrooper first started shipping. The girl snatched it off the peg and proclaimed "MINE!!!" as the guy hung his head. She then walked around proudly clutching the figure with a huge grin on her face. Such role reversal there, it was great! |
