It's like you have a thing for leaving people suspended.

First, that's what second editions are for. Second, at least it means I'm paying attention enough to catch the little details. Which usually means I'm interested in what I'm reading. Especially that internal dialog he was having when he was watching the reaver nest. "Where were you three comments ago?" or the like. Yep, the books of the Star Wars Universe are full of contradictions despite George Lucas claiming to have say over all of them... before he sold out to Disney anyway. I don't know how it works now. See, I figured you were thinking it would take longer. I promise no George RR Martinesque 5 year waits between books.
Though if waiting five years would give me his sales and an HBO deal I'll do it. I'm glad you guys are enjoying. If you can, please consider leaving an Amazon review. I'll beg if I have to. it can and does materially affect sales.

I've been thinking over what to write for the past few days. I've always been terrible at book reports.

It doesn't have to be a report. Can be as simple as you like. I mean, naturally you don't have to do it at all. I'm just begging.

You guys are really making me reconsider my "not until it's all published" rule for book series.

I can wholeheartedly recommend picking up Irid's book. Just don't tell him you did, or else his teacher persona will assign you homework.

... ... ... I got detention.
My bigger fear is that as we talk about it, he'll alter and/or adapt things to "better suit" the whims of the audience he's hearing and change the tone and style of the books. Which is why I'd prefer to just say, "I like it overall" and keep him from being paranoid because I mention some nitpick like, "there certainly is a lot of talk about thick wrists every time two people meet for the first time and shake hands." Don't read that part, Irid. Anyway, I'm about a hundred pages from finishing and I'll leave my review at the next available moment. In respect, it'll be as honest as your paladin. Hicks, you can't possibly offend me with your opinion after all the rejections I've gone through with this. Don't worry about it.

Like I said, it's not a fear of offending you. I just don't want you trying to force a change that isn't needed and altering the over tone of the storytelling as a result.
The story is told well. As I've mentioned to Hellion, original stories are hard to develop so it's often how the story is told that creates a worthy read. And your efforts are quite good in that regard. The characters are developing throughout the story and changing [or becoming more known, even to themselves] as events unfold around them. New or outlying/referenced characters are developed and introduced as time permits/progresses in an interesting manner without being the "since I mentioned [x character] let me take you away from the main story for ten minutes and do an in depth reveal suddenly" that some stories fall into. For instance, Lionel... Whathisface. Characters speak of him through the better part of 300 pages before he's actually brought into a scene and even then it's brief and you can see some of his own nature through his own actions to either accord with or contradict what others have spoken about him. Then he's gone again to leave you wondering about how he'll react to the terms presented to him. As Hellion pointed out though, 2017 is still a bit off. Likely, I'll have to reread, or at least skim over, this book before the second's release to refresh the memory. Last edited by Hicks_Royel; 05-30-2016 at 09:49 PM.. |
