Kai, the occasion was Carolina/California league all star game festivities here in Wilmington. The local minor league club are a Royals affiliate, so Damon and Sweeney both played here, and Damon assume in town to get his number retired. Brett and Sweeeny were there, I assume, out of some loyalty to the Royals org. We had VIP tickets because my wife's boss is a sponsor at the local stadium.

Well, I definitely didn't get those and emailed them about it. Thanks.

Irid, that's cool, man.
Slice looks incredible. I, also, am not a club member anymore. |

Decided I'm gonna skip the FSS again this year. Just put too much in Marauder to go in on both.
Having said that, I'm seriously debating getting in on the FansToys Dinobots.... $200 each? man.... that's an investment

Have you seen the Gigapower figures, Kia-guy? They're every bit as impressive as FT's stuff. And taller.
So, how about this idea of Hasbro selling figures individually by the order? Being able to but a troop builder by the case? That may even be able to help curb online retail mark-ups. |

If the benefits filter down to the consumer level it'll be great. I can easily see the bigger shops continuing at their current pricing strategy no matter the case layout. If they can still sell Whateva-Vipers at $15 each, they will. It's going to need smaller shops to be price-competitive on a scale big enough to influence the big shops for it to really benefit the average Joe (collector).
As for Dinobots, yep, that's an investment alright. I'm in for FT's Slag and Swoop. I have Quakewave, and while solid, I'm not as in love with it as the average vocal MP/3P collector. I think their Slag looks good in robot mode and fantastic in dino mode. Swoop looks okay in both, but CP hit the sweet spot on pricing so I bit. As for Giga, yeah, they're bigger. I don't necessarily see that as better. People raved about Quakewave because it was so heavy, and they're doing the same for Scoria already. And Giga is apparently following suit, with more frame to work with. I don't care if something's heavy and/or loaded with die cast metal, what counts for me are looks, posability, and quality. If we go by the heft rule, that makes MP-1 better than MP-10. Maybe in some of the proportions... but yeah no. I do like the bot mode look of Giga's Snarl, but dino mode just looks like an upscaled G1 figure, and that doesn't really do much for me. For scale, there's a contingent that have those first few scenes as a hard-coded reference point, where all of the Dinobots should be towering over Prime. Having just freshly watched G1 season 2 and 3, I'm of the mind that scale is just a suggestion. Stuff changed too much, even from scene to scene. The Dinobots were big. Scoria is big. Giga Snarl is bigger. Both qualify. I'm not bothered if someone thinks Scoria should be 9/16ths of an inch taller. Since we're talking Transformers, I picked up the Headmasters series the other day. I'm utterly shocked at how soft and washed out it looks. I didn't think the old Rhino G1 releases looked all that hot, and was expecting Shout Factory to be an upgrade considering they came out over a decade later. The subtitles are also weak, with a thin white font and poor formatting. If I had paid more than the $20 I spent, I would have been pissed. I'm still going to get the FFS. I skipped Maurauder, but I'm going to find a way to get in on the Boss Fight action. Gonna be an expensive month. |
