Dude, nothing is more important than milling about with strange nerds while worshiping the free market.
This is what I have to tell myself every night before bed for a week straight before these things. |

The one NJCC I attended was pretty nice, though there are two deals I wish I hadn't walked away from; a complete Night Boomer for $250 and a set of Manleh and Starduster from the Red Shadows convention set for $120. Both way below market and I didn't pull the trigger on either one. Stupid.

Dammit, that FSS reveal is a huge disappointment. I can't even imagine you'll be able to resell them for much.

All good. That was just a mild disappointment compared to the rest of my day. My girlfriend machine-washed her iPhone, and I have the sinking feeling that my helper for NJCC is going to flake out and/or be too hungover to make it tomorrow morning. And that's on top of Irid and Fogger having more important things to do than drive for hours to wander around a glorified dealer room for 6 hours.

I plan on keeping the 13th figure, but yeah...kind of disappointing. But really, after the disappointment of Black Out last year, it's about what can be expected. Anything desirable would be used to sell the sub. They're not going to keep a hot figure a mystery. I'm sure the next one will be something "meh" as well.

I will totally put this Grand Slam with my O13, but I liked Blackout last year because it was a character that didn't exist yet in ME form, and it like the backstory (and the figure). I was really surprised that this year's 13th figure didn't play into any of the back stories or file cards.

There was a suggestion in the TFW threads to have a year of member suggested characters for the convention set. I think that it may translate over and better suit the FSS theme. Certainly in the case of Joes and the mystery 13th figure.
Members could be given a list of potential mold/characters that the Club has obtained permission to use and every one can vote for one or two or even three that they'd like to see. The poll results could then be kept secret until the figure is released. It seems to me that this could eliminate some of the "underwhelmed" vibes and bitching I'm reading elsewhere. |

So the door prize list for NJCC was impressive enough that I decided to take raffle tickets at payment for some things. I damn near cleared out my JvC collection in about 2 hours. I also spent about $60 on tickets. The result? IDW complete GI Joe collection volume 1 (oxymoron much?) signed by Hama and Trimpe. And, for the second show in a row, a Mirage custom/exclusive, this one the one-off desert version. And despite the raffle gods sending me a clear signal, I walked right up to the winner of Metalhead and asked if he wanted to trade. He declined. |

You ditching either of those Mirages, or keeping both?

Can't they just limit the votes to members and have it one-per?

The answer is cognitive dissonance.
Sure. But that would require club software to actually work properly. |
