As for names:
Steel is too easy, but you've got the obvious "flint & steel" use. Portfire? It was apparently used for lighting fireworks or cannons, and is somewhat synonymous with "flint" in that respect. Maybe Hammerstone, which was a tool used on flint to make it into useful shapes? Pyrite, which was used with flint prior to steel becoming common? Musket, a la "flintlock"? Or even Gunlock, which was a flintlock on a cannon. Along the same lines, Cutlass, which was often used with a flintlock pistol. Mortar? Flint was used to build walls, and mortar used to hold it together. You could also go with any other number of stone-based names. He doesn't seem hard enough to be "Granite", but that's up to you, of course.

That last paragraph there was definitely a thing, fogger.
As far as naming Flint goes, I think we can look at the prevailing attitude towards Duke to sum it up: "He makes a great generic trooper!" Which really says, "This figure doesn't have a whole lot of personality." Flint falls into the same category. As corny as some if it was, the outward personalities of the ARAH Joes are what makes them appealing IMO. I don't understand the fan push for the whole modern military look. The result is homogeny that "makes a great generic trooper!" I've got some ideas for the file card, which I will leave until later as I've got errands to run before the post office closes. Hicks, you'll be pleased to know that Amazon just dropped off the perfect shipping box for Acid Storm. |

Personally I like something between ARAH-stylings and the modern military look, which I think PoC was doing nicely.

That last paragraph is my reaction to the unchecked spread of racism, sexism, homophobia, and other general ignorance and bigotry that has become ridiculously easy to find in the toy collecting "community." Not to mention the never ending senses of entitlement, rage, childishness, and hostility. I don't really think it applies to any of you guys, mind.

I was referring to fogger's last paragraph. I was making a juvenile joke. And I am now thoroughly confused.
Anyway, I agree on POC. I'm all for modern as long as it retains personality. A squad of identical toys wearing digital desert camo fatigues and helmets doesn't do much for me. |

I'm with Hellion. PoC did a great job making the figures look modern and badass but also still like the established characters.

I opened all of my wave 3.5 figures tonight. Initial thoughts:
WTF is that BP Claw that comes with SS? If you pull the harness down, it doesn't spin...but the other way... I just don't get it. And it's way to bulky. Kwinn = real and spectacular Data Viper = see above (and I got everything to hold together fine for me. I think the trick is to get the handles/joysticks in his grip and then the arm pieces won't fall off unless you shake him). Duke = Not Duke (trooper for me). Nice. CC = Pretty much perfect CC. Budo = Solid, yet out of place figure. SE = Good figure, but doesn't outdo the PoC commando version Flint = Good figure. Nothing exceptional about him. CG = Fine, but 1 is enough for me. CCNT = Cool figure, but not a ninja to me. Roadblock = Awesome. No need for the stupid zip-line / whatever the hell it is thing. Firefly = Wish he came with the actor head. 3-pack is greater. My favorites are Kwinn and Data Viper. I can't believe we finally have them. |
