Wesley stopped whining to be on the bridge because he got whisked away to be with The Traveller. (On a side note, I wonder if he was needed to save the ship during the first JoCo cruise.)
I watched DS9 for a bit, then got bored. I watched Voyager for a bit, then got bored. By the time Enterprise came on I was working nights so never really got into it. And when I heard that they met the Borg I threw up my hands and never sought it out. People who tend to like movies lean toward Star Wars, and people who tend to like serials lean toward Star Trek. Ergo, it makes sense that a SW fan enjoyed the latest movie more than any of the series. (I'm not even going to try and punctuate that correctly at the end of a sentence. And I'm also aware that people can like both movies and serials, just pointing out tendencies.) I thought the Abrams movie had potential but had too many jarring lost-suspension-of-disbelief moments. (And after seeing Super 8, it seems he's getting serious Bayitis.) |

I was worried about the new trek movie but I quite enjoyed it and liked how they did manage with some fuzzy sci fi time travel hoo haw to connect it into the main trek timeline and then totally reset everything.
It was the best remake of the last few years, at least compared to the bay tf movies and the rubbish Joe "movie". The bit I had a problem with was the engine room on the ship. I sat there in the theater saying how much it resembled a beer brewery only to find out they did actually film the engine room in a brewery! Major fail. Looking forward to the second and hopefully brewery free movie.

I liked the reset and thought it was well-cast. SPOILERS AHEAD But it had the (semi-expected) unscience fiction facepalming bits like Spock watching Romulus immolate while being all "if only I hadn't stopped for that latte!" as if all life on the planet hadn't been roasted long before the nova hit it. But what got me was the whole "I'm leaving now, rebellious cadet who cheated on Maru and is only here because of circumstances and isn't technically qualified to do anything but sit in quarters, you are now second in command of this ship and its crew." That just brought me full out of enjoyment mode and into WTF. Watching it for the first time with friends who had already seen it, I expressed my disappointment. "Well, how else are they supposed to get Kirk in command?" "I dunno, not write themselves into a corner?"
Yeah, I'm picky. |

I was glad they kept the Kobayashi Maru test in the movie, and the way he used a girl to get into the system was classic Kirk. That was a win moment for me in the movie.
Pike promoting him that fast, yeah, well remember he was sort of Kirk's mentor the whole way through so that didn't seem a big stretch. Best practice for running a starship? mmm... maybe not. Kobayashi the hot dog eating champion, however, I'm glad he was kept out of the movie.

From a movie-watching perspective (I can be pretty picky, but mostly I want my sci fi to stay within the premise and not be made by Michael Bay) I agreed that having Pike promote Kirk THAT FAST was a "wtf" moment, that could've been alleviated with one small prior scene after Kirk entered the academy that showed Pike acting as his mentor/rabbi in the system, that simultaneously showed Kirk's budding potential. Wouldn't have been that hard.

That movie was a lot of fun, but I've always appreciated how Star Trek writers seemed to give plenty of thought to the science fiction aspects of their stories. In the latest movie, these parts seemed more of an afterthought.

So Hicks, any word on your Coneheads preorder? I just saw that they were listed as in-stock on TFSource's site again. My preorder contains nothing but the set... I'm thinking I should have gotten a notice by now unless they just went up.

Arguing Star Wars to Star Trek is about as fruitless and comparing the words War and Trek. Which pretty much sum up the differences quite nicely.
And Enterprise was great. And so was the new movie. Mostly because Abrams [though somewhat cheaply] blank slated things for Trek II. The Spock Paradox could be interesting. Ceraurus, I'm having trouble typing your name tonight... But your customs look great. I really am having to tell myself that I'm trying to quit with the collecting cause I honestly want to hire you for a set. Fogger, your stuff should go out Friday... and Fast Draw, if you want them on card, I'll probably use the first USPS flat rate box that'll fit. If I can ship them in a plastic baggie, that'll be what five bucks for the little one? I also suggest emailing them [BBTS] on your trailer. TFSource shipped my stuff within 24 hours of me asking about the return to "preorder" status. Uh, what else... Oh, I saw my first repack this morning at Wal-Mart. Someone had swapped out a Rip Attack Neo-Viper in a RoC Wild Bill vest for the 30th Viper that was supposed to be on the card. I couldn't do much but I at least took it to the front cashier and made her aware of it. |

Hellion, this is the reply I got from their CS:
Quote:
These were so popular, we needed to order more so that the customers who missed out on ordering would have the chance.
Those are on their way to us and that Preorder is closed too, so now it is listed as out of stock again. Since your Preorder #xxxxx was done with the original batch, your 3 pack is sitting here in the warehouse (along with the many others who were just waiting for the SunStorm to arrive). We do apologize for any confusion (on the Out of Stock, Preorder, In Stock settings)as this can sometimes happen on a very popular item(s). Per your approval, I will charge your card for the xxxxxx today and we will be able to get that shipped out to you. Sorry about the colors. This site needs to clearly point out which is the default text color for a guy like me who hates digital technology. I use black and it all goes to hell... then I pick white and I can't see it... I also caught an airbag with my face yesterday morning while dodging a deer on a wet road! You can watch a million of those deploy for test purposes and never appreciate just how fast they can tear the bark from your nose and forehead. Last edited by Hicks_Royel; 09-22-2011 at 03:58 AM.. |
