The newer xB isn't terrible. Still not for me, but not terrible. Better than the focus an old girlfriend had. Hated riding around in that car. $100 floor mats seem stupid though. I'd've probably laughed and walked away right then had someone told me that.
--- So... I got to piss off some Hot Wheels collectors today. Literally piss them off and hopefullly some of them feel I pissed on them too. Man, it's a shame this KMart's not going to continue using the first come/first serve format with these promotions of theirs. I think I'd've called in every favor I'm owed. Perhaps, I should explain. KMarts do a special promotion for collectors with exclusive cases and on certain Saturdays folks come in and stores are supposed to raffle off the chance for people to open a fresh case of exclusives, take their fill and mail off for a another special promotional car/truck/whatever... I have, at times, helped out a friend of mine by going to my local KMart and sitting among the old men and snot nosed offspring for an hour [because you have to get there at opening to get your name high up on the list] and then wait till nine for the "event". Anyway, the reason for getting your name on the list so early is because this store's promotion is run by a couple of women who just want to be done with it and get these guys out of the store asap and so they've always just run down the list and handed out cases first come style. Case in hand, you open it, loot it, and pass it off to the next chump in line. Typically, however, they get squat cause who's gonna hand off a case with anything good left in it. However, this wasn't an issue the first two times I did this dance cause there were 20 plus cases and only about a dozen people. Everyone got something, everyone was happy. Then word must've gotten out. And the masses appeared. And it got ugly as large concentration of idiots do. People started bringing entire families, extended families and the like... And whoever's on the list first get the first pickings. And people started calling KMart's home office and complaining. All of this, I got from one of the women who runs the show for this local KMart as she singled me out as "standing out from typicals..." and so we traded stories. So this time was the last for the first come list format. Next time, there'll be a raffle at 9:00 and no one can argue with the results. Which, is only fair because people with litters of offspring [one child less than a year old who still got his name on the list and got a case] were pretty must ruining it. And this time, folks only had five minutes to look through the case, take what they wanted and move along. Well, five minutes is a long time. You can do a lot with it if your only instructions are "get me as many cars as you can from a case and keep any Treasure Hunts you find..." And that's exactly what I did. I got my case of 36 cars, and collected four more from another's leftovers and headed out. "Wait..." someone exclaimed, "He's not letting anyone else look through the case! That's not fair." As he, his two [assumed] daughters, [assumed] son and [once again, assumed] brother/father/blood relative [they all had the same last name and looked alike] all armloaded their chosen cars [from five different cases] protectively. My reply was simple enough, "I was told I had five minutes to collect what I wanted. I want them all. Plus these and the A-Team van" Yeah, I actually got the A-Team van for myself, nuts to my friend on that one. And that's when the rabbling filled electronics because ultimately and rather quickly, the woman in charge sided with me. She knew I was only there for a friend, knew I didn't want to be there at all and she seemed to enjoy that this was pissing the bulk of them off quite thoroughly. As I left with my case, I was stopped by one of the few guys that I actually respect from all of this and he laughed, shook my hand and thanked me for doing what he couldn't since he had to keep up appearances among his "peers" as he called them. After all, he was a regular to the event at this store, had to drive an hour each way everytime and had only been coming because of the fact that he knew he could get a case and wasn't happy that the idiots had ruined it for him too. Still reading? Good for you. Last edited by Hicks_Royel; 09-17-2011 at 11:05 PM.. |

Eh, it's easy to recklessly spend with other people's money... Which reminds me, he's probably gonna want change since I was only able to get him the 40 cars [20 per receipt cause that's how the promotion works].
And being a dick comes easy to me when I have to deal with people that I don't care about. Which brings me to this: Nothing to concern yourself with. Last edited by Hicks_Royel; 09-17-2011 at 11:30 PM.. |

And when the hell did this happen?
Can't Marvel create new characters anymore instead of "reinventing" old ones? Edit: So I've been reading the Wikipedia on this guy. I love it the undertones of it. And this little gem: Quote:
People who say this is a PC stunt miss the point. Miles Morales is a reflection of the culture in which we live. I love the fact that my son Tito will see a Spider-Man swinging through the sky whose last name is "Morales". And judging from the response, I can see I'm not alone.
” You want to make a real impact, go out and create a new character with new backgrounds, new personal issues and make him as popular as Spider-Man without being Spider-Man. It... it just seems lazy [and there's a stereotype for you that I'm not gonna touch]. It's not accomplishing as much as it could because you're standing on the shoulders of an iconic character and capitalizing on namesake and the stir of controversy to get your "new character" out there and recognized by the masses. Worse, anyone who disagrees with the change is turned out to be backwards and ignorant to progress. Kinda like taking Street Fighter II: The Movie and calling it GI Joe: Rise of Co Last edited by Hicks_Royel; 09-18-2011 at 12:20 AM.. |

I don't read much of Marvel, but I think introducing this kid is probably a good move. In their main superhero teams and such, what kind of African Americans are there?
An ex con who used to talk like he was in a blacksploitation flick. A blond haired mutant, worshipped by her poor primitive African tribe as a goddess. An African prince. Yeahhhh, they could use some more diversity. Just sayin'. Even though I don't read much Marvel (just Avengers books, really), New Avengers 16, last week, might have been the best single issue I have read this year.

There's a K-mart down the street from me that I hardly ever go to. If they do anything like that, I'm glad I don't know about it.

Realizing that most of these characters were certainly created well before "Diversity" was a popular word in American Culture, I'm not arguing that various races shouldn't find more equal representation in the modern age. I just think that the way that Marvel is going about it is lazy. It's very much as lazy as adding Wolverine and [the currently moronic] Deadpool to everything to help bolster sales.
Create something new, don't just "reimagine" the existing. Last edited by Hicks_Royel; 09-18-2011 at 12:28 AM.. |

All KMarts should be doing the Hotwheels thing. They also do a Cars promotion. That was considerably less competitive. Yes, I and the house wife with her two very young children got to sit through that one. Oddly enough, there were twice as many cases for that. I was there for a former board member who lives in Canada. I assume he got his stuff as I have heard from him to verify it. At least he paid in advance.
