Next Generation was the only Star Trek I ever cared for. Dr. Crusher was milftastic. Need I even mention Counselor Troi? And Riker could give Kirk a run for his money as biggest playa of the trek universe.
Whatever. Star Trek was always wildly inferior to Star Wars anyway. Proof? The recent reboot movie proved that the only thing needed to make Star Trek awesome was for it to steal the plot of A New Hope.

So, for those following along at home, here's how everything went down.
Friday didn't go quite as planned. I went through my inventory (which I'm thoroughly pleased I've been so anal about) and realized that my little xB wasn't going to hold all of the stuff I needed to retrieve from storage in one trip. And seeing as my storage unit is inconveniently located 25 minutes away (for a whopping 9 mile drive) I wasn't about to make multiple trips. (I'd just move to a nearer unit, but they rent goes up considerably the closer I get to my house for some reason. It's not all bad, either... the manager there is a total babe.) So I arranged to pick up my rental van earlier in the day Saturday. That left me with very little to do Friday. So I made up some cheesy signs in the design monolith known as OOo and did little else but stare at the internet and play Rock Band. By the time the sun went down I was running on fumes, and I crashed out around 6 or so. I was up at 4 Saturday morning, and starting going through my room, picking out random stuff that never found a proper home to take with me to the con. I pulled out my bed to check what got put in the cabinets behind it many moons ago (small room is small) and found a few Gundam kits, a set of the 2002 TMNT figures, and a full(?) set of kickass Gundam figures from the 7" Arch Enemy line. Went with the gf to pick up the van at around 9... and damn near shat my pants when trying to back out of the parking spot. I hadn't driven a van in over 10 years, and that was a passenger van... you know, the kind with a big window on the side. This, being a cargo van, had no such visibility-enhancing device. And, it was freaking huge. The blind spot was enormous no matter how I adjusted the mirrors (which were sadly lacking in internal adjustment mechanisms). This monster was going to be overkill, but I didn't have much of a choice as SUVs and minivans cost more than twice as much to rent. So I pick up my gf back at the house and we take the annoying, circuitous trip to my storage unit. She had yet to see the inside, and just kinda blinked when I opened the door. "You DO have a lot of stuff." Packed up and back to the house we went, set up her laptop with the blank inventory spreadsheet, and started going through stuff. We had just gotten to the metric shitton of JvC carded figures when my other help for the day showed up, a buddy and his wife. I gave everyone a quick lesson on grading (NOTHING is ever a 10, what flaws to look for, etc), and set the ladies to going through stuff while I ascended into the cramped attic (with special edition nail-lined roofing slats... the friggin morons who did the shingles used nails that went right through everything ). I handed boxes down the ladder while navigating token "flooring" on my belly, ass, and hips. I had to remove a bunch of stuff I wasn't going to have room to take with me to get to some of the stuff that I wanted to take... which was of course in the layer furthest from the entrance. When I eventually got back downstairs I had my second near-soiling as there were piles and piles of boxes taller than I with barely room to walk. My gf just kind of had a look on her face... "I guess I never really believed you when you said you had a lot of stuff..." and all I could do was look around at the mess and go . So we started going through it all, bit by bit, and all I could think about was 1. this was going to take forever 2. most of this has to be put back in the attic and 3. I was foolish for only getting one table. I was pretty overwhelmed. We slowly started whittling stuff down, and at about 6 I cut everything off and started packing the rest up for re-attic-ing. It took about an hour to get everything up there and squared away, then my friends said their goodbyes (until the next morning, the one was meeting me at the hotel at 5am). That left my gf and I to go through the rest of what was downstairs, catalog, and start packing. She left at around 8 as she needed to go tend to her dog, who had been alone in the apartment for 12+ hours at that point (her normal neighbor-helper was in Florida for the week, and she lives an hour away so shuttling wasn't practical). I spent the next hour or so packing... then realized that I had never taken out my ARAH 2001 set for cataloging. Or had gotten small bills for change-making. Or picked up bottled water. So out I crossed my fingers and went to Wawa (it's like 7-11 with a 24/7 deli and hot food and people that can speak English) and asked the cashier very nicely if she could spare some ones and fives... which she could, thankfully. Then I headed home and spent the next 3 hours cataloging my ARAH stuff, organizing the raw list data, and printing it out. I didn't get to bed until after midnight. My alarm went off 3 hours later. I was glad that I had waited to load the van. There was condensation on everything outside, not so much IN the van, but it was freaking cold, enough so that it took a good few minutes for the defroster to make any headway on the windshield. All of my stuff took up one solid layer on the floor with plenty of cavernous space left, and I once again kicked myself for only getting one table. Met my friend at the hotel at around 5:30, no signs or anything that I could see telling dealers where to go, so I poked around and asked where to find Destro/Fran and got set up with the table. It was right next to the loading doors, which was awesome at first, less distance to lug everything, etc. But the stiff breeze was cold enough to numb hands after not too long. And kicking myself for just getting one table only kept me so warm. I did luck out though... I was on the end, and there was a magic square pedestal table next to the chair, which I gladly used. After unloading everything, all of my table and half of the next table were covered with my crap, and I had another self-kick moment. To my astonishment, we managed to arrange everything so that it all fit on the table, under the table, and on the cheap plastic shelves I had bought. I sold my USA Sarge before dealer setup was over, and then Mark Bellomo darts over and asks about my Night Attack Chopper and JvC Conquest, and asks if I can set aside the NAC for him. So far so good... except for that damn door. We were pretty frozen by the time they closed up. The actual con itself was pretty mellow. I met some 'Tankers (Viper 486's BAT costume was freaking killer btw), sold some stuff. My gf relieved my friend at like 11, and her sister and brother-in-law stopped by for a bit around 1. The whole time I'm getting plenty of inquiries, but not many sales. Seems like everyone who stopped by said "OOOO GUNDAM!" poked around, and didn't buy anything. Got ZERO interest in any JvC stuff, which wasn't too surprising, but still, blah. The only TFs I sold were the Classics Magnus/Skywarp sets and a Machine Wars Starscream that I probably got fleeced on. Lots of looking at my SportsPicks, but only sold two figures. As I mentioned I sold both ARAH 2001 HQ sets, and some Funskool Joe-ish stuff I had. And, surprisingly, all of the TMNT stuff but Turtlebot and a Foot Soldier. A few Gundam kits here and there. Sadly I am still the owner of a JAFcon Black Convoy and related 15th anniversary Takara Convoy and Magnus, as well as a Perfect Grade Wing Zero. I brought back home a lot more than I was hoping to... stupid down economy. The con was scheduled to run until 5, but people started packing up at like 3. By 5, just about everyone was gone. I packed up, headed home, unloaded, ate, and was out cold by like 8 or 9. I was up at 7 Monday morning to take the van back. Came back home, relaxed for a bit, caught up on fantasy sports, etc. At around 10 I started breaking down the leftover con stuff and the remnants of the storage unit boxes, organizing and re-packing them, updating my inventory spreadsheet as needed. I loaded my car for a storage unit run and squeezed the rest back into the attic, then vacuumed and all. By then it was 6, and I got ready to head over to my friend's house to watch the game and celebrate another friend's birthday, hitting the storage unit on the way. I feel kind of bad about it, but his present was a bobblehead Megatron that I got as a gag gift several Christmases ago. I brought it to the con and it didn't sell, and I had no logical place to keep it. (Though it did score me Big Lots knockoff Constucticon and Protectobot sets when Destro announced that the first person to bring up a Megatron gets a prize. I sent my gf up with it, and I think she was quite embarrassed lol). The game was mind-boggling... though as a long-time Eagles fan AND long-time dog owner there's more than a little cognitive dissonance when it comes to Vick playing well. Pennsylvania sure has some winners at quarterback... a dog-killer and a rapist. Anyway, the game was well in hand by the end of the third quarter, which is just as well because I was nodding off. I ended up napping there until about 1:30, then headed home. As I needed to go to work the next night, I made myself stay up until around 6am or so. And that was my magical 4-day weekend. BTW, here's a handy link for those who want to quote this monstrosity. Last edited by Hellion42; 11-17-2010 at 11:06 AM.. |

Hellion, we won't judge you if a whole crapload of JvC stuff winds up in a Toys for Tots donation bin. Just sayin'.
