If I was you, I would look into getting a 750 or something comparable. I've ridden many 1000cc sport bikes and they are just too much bike sometimes for the streets. I have a 07 Suzuki GSX-R 750 and never looked back. Great handling and quickness like a 600 but the added power of a 1000 when you need it.

You can't do this on a Harley.

Dont care for motor bikes all to much, but there is something about a HD coming down the road. You know its a HD because you hear it 6 block away, like a rumbling herd of wild buffalo charging across the plains.

Not a Harley. You can on a Buel, you'd drag the foot pegs or hit the bars on a Harley.

Like I was saying though, most guys that want to drag a knee wouldnt be on a HD...its not in the same realm of what a sport bike can do performance wise compared to a Harley. Having said that though, there are plenty of things you can do to make a HD a pretty good drag bike. You wouldnt buy a Cadillac if you were planning on racing the Indy 500....and thats what Im trying to figure out right now. How I'm gonna ride.

I think you can enjoy a sports bike just as much as a HD. It's how you plan on riding the bike. I know guys who have sport bike just to go canyon carving or track days. I personally don't care for the canyons as much, but I do enjoy the cruises my buddies and I go on along PCH all the time. To me
It's just something about being on a bike and enjoying the open air on a nice day that makes me enjoy the hobby. Plus having a responsible group of riders makes the cruises fun. No need to be stunters or showoff, your just asking for trouble if you ask me. |

Was considering a Honda Valkyrie myself just on the beauty. Anyone have past experience with that model?

I've also been fond of the Indian motorcycles from 1940's

Depends on the rider...what they are willing to spend and what they are looking for out of the bike.
I like the looks of Harley's...and my neighbor has a nice chopper he just bought. I like looking at them...but I'd rather not have to put all that time into keeping them up. Not bashing any brand...they just aren't for me. As for keeping their value...that is like anything, it depends on the up-keep of it...and ultimately a buyers market for it. As for riding...I ride with anyone. Great buddy has a Harley...while I ride my 1986 Honda Nighthawk 700s. We often hook up with other motorcyclists and ride...doesn't matter what brand it is, we all enjoy the open road. I can't advise you on what to buy...I can only tell you why I bought the bike I have. Seen it when I was younger...loved the look of it - it was my brother-in-law's bike. When he decided to sell it...I bought it. As for the sound of it...it doesn't rumble like a Harley, or sound like a race bike...thanks to the Vance & Hines 4 into 1 header and exhaust, it sounds like a formula 1 car...which I enjoy and the neighbors really dislike. lol I wish you luck with whatever you decide to purchase...and always have a safe ride!!
