I was actively collecting the toys and reading the comics at the time, so I have a lot of sentimentality for this era, despite its faults. There are a lot of designs I'd love to see done as more traditional o-rings and in Classified. I'm dying for a Scalpel.

I went with Baroness, there were alot of great new characters and figures in this wave and many I liked alot, i actually owned most of these as i went in on these hard, it was great to have new joes to collect with lots of new designs and accessories, hard to hate on these to much.

They had some genuinely good releases in these years, too. The black VvV helmeted Cobra Commander was our CC figure for most of my childhood, and he's still a legitimately good toy. Comics pack Firefly is still the best version of the character except the 1984 original, and we troop built the heck out of the comics pack Cobra Troopers (especially after the excess went to Dollar General). Good times. |

do a barrel roll.
(it's about that time when i thought it was really dumb that gijoe kept having sets of siblings. even though barrel roll was cool, it was not cool his brother was the cobra sniper and his sister was bombshell.) |

I was just growing up then, so I remember it with a lot of fondness. I was buying the toys, which were available everywhere in good quantity, my older brother was buying the Image comic books, we had the first GI Joe DVD sets from Rhino, they still played the show on Cartoon Network and classic GI Joe stuff was still super cheap at garage sales and flea markets.
Good times. I was in my twenties (although I'd say still growing up) and had gotten back into Joe in '97 with the TRU stuff. I look back on the early 2000s as an overlooked period of Joe goodness. As you said, the toys were plentiful and the media was still relatively easy to enjoy/discover. It was a great time to be a Joe fan. |

That's awesome to hear!
It really was a great time to be a Joe fan. I kind of chuckle whenever I see older fans complaining about the imperfections in comics packs, and the vast numbers of seemingly random weapons each figure came with in those days. Those comics packs were gold as a kid who didn't live anywhere near a TRU because it let me buy new old-style GI Joe figures. And I loved the huge amounts of weapons that 2002-04 figures came with, because my older figures were all either passed down from older siblings or bought loose at flea markets or garage sales, and there was never enough weapons to go around. As long as a figure could hold the weapon without breaking its thumb, we didn't really care if it wasn't the right gun. Last edited by SnowCat; 05-08-2024 at 10:33 PM.. |

One day left to vote! If someone doesn't win, I'm going to have to do another poll with just the figures that tied for first place.
