"Looks like we made it
Look how far we've come, my baby We mighta took the long way We knew we'd get there someday They said, "I bet they'll never make it" But just look at us holding on We're still together, still going strong "You're Still The One," - Shania Twain Considering the fact in the closing years of the teens (with the prior 6" JOE line being canceled due to the lack of entertainment and Retaliation under performing, Hasbro ending its relationship with Fun Publications, [I think that was the name of Brian Savage's company,] prominent members of the JOE community actively wondering what was Hasbro's plans for G.I. JOE and if there was even going to be a G.I. JOE line going forward,) When you factor the that a lot of the fandom didn't even want a 1:12 JOE line and the prevailing thought was a 1:12 scale G.I. JOE line would brick, (hell even Lenny and Emily thought the Classified Series would only last for a few waves,) when you put it into context to what was going on at the time you see how apropos and relevant the opening stanza to that Shania Twain classic is to the Classified Series. To quote a hit R&B record from Deborah Cox, "How did you get here? Nobody's supposed to be here. The 4 1/2 years since the inception of the line the G I JOE Classified Series has over performanced and exceeded all expectations, (like a muthafucka, LOL.) I wish I knew what thread it was in (so I could cite it for reference,) when I started posting here on the regular there was a Tanker (who said in a thread that I started,) that Classified was "doing gangbusters," in terms of sales. Me, (doin' my best impression of a "negative Nancy/doubting Thomas,) wanted credible primary sources from ole boy to back up his claim. Though I still think his claim that Classified was doin' numbers at retail was a bit premature it's obvious that ole boy was right and the Classified Series was doing (at a minimum,) impressive numbers at retail. Which brings me to the topic at hand, there's been several things that surprised me concerning the Classified Series. Those being the pivot and how fast it happened. When Classified started it was a boys' toy line. About a year and half later it was definitely an adult collector line. How fast the Nerf guns were abandoned. The number of guys who simply wanted the Classified Series to be 1:12 scale versions of figures that they had in the 80's, and the thing that surprised me the most about the Classified Series was the phenomenal success of the H.I.S.S. Tank HasLab campaign. I, (like everybody else,) knew it would fund. I thought it would take about a week to get the Tactican figure. I (like everybody else,) didn't the H.I.S.S. Tank would fund at the end of the work day and hit all of the tiers in a week and half. That shit was simply amazing and a next level experience to see those numbers just keep going, and going, and going. If you doubted the G I JOE Classified Series before the H.I.S.S. Tank campaign, just like the Monkees when they saw ole girl's face "now you're a believer." Damn, I'm quoting a lot of song lyrics in this post, lol. Anyway...I was wondering what has surprised you guys the most about the Classified Series?

On one hand, I'm absolutely shocked so many jumped to 6" so easily.
On the other, I just realized that mass retail 3.75 is basically dead anyway so I suppose it being the only real option helps. Let's face it, though. Classified is rocking because Hasbro saw the HISS destroy expectations. Imagine if it had failed. Would Classified be what it is now, or would we see a situation with Star Wars where 3.75 got a renewed focus alongside 6"? |

I'm surprised it hasn't spawned more media.

I'm surprised how promptly everyone jumped to 1/12 scale but wants oversized vehicles, isn't that why 3 3/4 sized figures started was so we could have vehicles? Don't get me wrong I know the ME retro line started to go downhill but it was nice to get vehicles for $25 right off the shelf.

I've been blown away at how well the line has done. Once the line really pivoted to being modern updates to characters and figures we know, it really took off.
I've been surprised how quickly the Joe fanbase adopted the line and how large the Joe fanbase appears to be.

I’m not surprised gi joe is a great brand. If they could do a series and an animated series right the brand could be even bigger. It’s one of the few brands that have strong female characters, good representation in the black and native communities as well. The asians are all ninjas so a bit of work to do there. But they are cool as f$ck. I don’t think anyone hates stormshadow.
Even the cobras have great personalities a lot to work with |

Good question they definitely like the classified price points vs 3.75. So not sure they would go back that route.

I think you got your answer with the 50th Anniversary stuff.
