I'd like ARAH reprinted in Marvel's "Essential" format (taken from wikipedia):
"Essential Marvel was a line published by Marvel Comics from 1996-2013 that reprinted vintage comic book material in paperback format. Each black-and-white volume reprints approximately 20-30 issues of a classic Marvel title (mostly from the Silver Age or Bronze Age). Each Essential contains between 450 and 650 pages, printed on coarse, matte-quality paper." |

Yeah, that's already common knowledge. My point was with the faux lether hardbacks, and questioning whether or not they'd do the IDW run that same way. Although now that I think about it, a faux leather hardback is just vinyl wrapped around cardboard that's likely to crack and peel after a decade or so. Maybe the soft covers are the way to go if both have newsprint pages for the comics.

Exactly. Hopefully they announce something along those lines before the KickStarter ends. Consistency is key. lol

Skybound does need to clear up their strategy for releasing the back-catalog of GI Joe.
The Amazon/retail version is definitely softback Marvel #1-#50 (so no clear indication that they are including Special Missions, etc. and if they will be in reading order if they do a Volume 2). They are saying "newsprint" which could mean those old rough Marvel Essential printings or it could be a very matte paperstock (as opposed to the more glossy stuff Marvel uses for their Omnibuses). There are digital releases of all the same stuff coming at the same time. The Kickstarter with the 4 Volume Hardcover definitely has the essential 155 issue Marvel run as well as Special Missions. As others have said, I am not so sure it includes the x.1/2 issues (that are rather divisive). No mention of the Yearbooks, but those had better be included as they have plot points that are later referenced by the main title. So about 195 issues across 4 volumes is roughly 50 issues per volume. Sounds like the softbacks could be same material just with cheaper binding and no trading cards. Each volume works out to 1000+ pages so they will be as thick as the bigger DC/Marvel Omnibus books. Larry Hama did write the Declassified series for Devils Due which should all occur before Marvel #1 to be in "proper reading order", but those do not seem to be included. After Marvel #155, Larry also wrote some Storm Shadow stuff for Devils Due and a couple issues of "Frontline". Larry still uses Demon Granny in his IDW-ARAH so those DD issues should be included. Seems that the Larry Hama-head cannon is that anything he wrote no matter the publisher is part of his overall story. I'm fine if the rest of Devils Due is relegated to a "splinter time line" in another dis-avowed collection. It is a curious "what-if Marvel GI Joe continued without Larry" and does have some nice bits in there. I really hope that if Skybound is going for "complete as possible", that issues 155 1/2 through 300 and the various Hama-verse IDW limited series also get a compendium. Between the dozen or so Larry issues from Devils Due and the 150+ IDW issues, that is nearly as much as the original Marvel run. Then Skybound can start collecting 301+ in their own hardbound compendiums every 50 issues. I have got all the individual issues since 1982 (used "Tales of GI Joe" to fill back-issues), but digging them out and unbagging them to read can be a pain. That might just make me content. |

I have all the original 1-155 ARAH issues, either from the original printings or Tales of G.I. Joe reprints (I'm not fussed about the difference), so newsprint omnibuses of those aren't of great interest to me.
However, I sold off all my Marvel Transformers comics ages ago. I regret that now, because one of my sons is a huge Transformers fan and has been devouring the new Energon Universe line and any IDW trade paperbacks I can find him. I'd very much like a collection of the Marvel run for him, and I'd settle for newsprint for that. I'm sure that's coming too, but I haven't seen a date announced yet. |

Might need a cinder block or three to prevent shelf bowing. Still waiting on info about the page quality. If that's newsprint too, easy pass.
