My 8 year old daughter has a Whale and a Mobile Command Center that she calls the Camel and she currently has a mission ongoing with pretty much only girl figures from Star Wars, Joe and the pink bear from Fortnite. She's getting a Baroness and some Marauder Vals for xmas too.
Sbartek is a solid fellow and a real bro

So, it makes me wonder if Hasbro is limited, for some reason, on which die/molds/tooling are available for the Retro line. There has just got to be some kind of rationale for Hasbro putting that crappy of a Duke figure on a "Retro" card. Do they honestly think that it's going to sell? I mean they didn't even put the JUMP pack to go along with the X belt-strap! It's jut mind-boggling to me.
Jason EDIT: OK. I'm sorry. I'm still in anger stage when it comes to this. I will try to leave this dude alone from now on.

There is a lot of complaining about the figures here, and rightfully so as they're pretty shoddy figures. What I don't see is anyone talking about getting them for their kids, which is how you grow the long term chances of the line. I'm picking every one of them up for my kids since my 4 year old will probably find the yelling face amusing on Duke and my daughter will be happy with any girl Joes. While these are pretty shoddy collectibles, they'll scratch an itch for my kids, which will hopefully lead to more releases for us to hope for, no?
The kids in my family were front-of-mind for me on all of this when the line was announced and was confirmed NOT to be o-ring. I have wanted to be able to hand out "ultimates" for Duke and Scarlett for years now and I hoped for those two to come out well, above all else. What I REALLY, REALLY wanted, was to be able to walk my kids into a Wal-Mart and just "accidentally dscover" these new Joes on the pegs and let them shop the way I did when I was a kid. That was, to put it mildly, a pipe dream. So now that the single-carded figures are shown to be exclusively second-rate repacks and/or sloppy kitbashes with questionable parts choices (RB's lower arms and legs, never liked the torso they used for Scarlett, screw that CC torso, etc.), they screwed up the FANG and sculpted a weird pilot, and I didn't really need to get them a retro HISS when they already have a POC HISS, and they already have the 50th AWE Striker... There is nothing to support here for me. I was going to buy a bit of whatever I could make an excuse for and then charge hard at any new and glorious updates. I'm at a stage now where I pretty much just skip the line except for any major standouts that I can get my hands on. That means the HISS tanks, AWE Strikers, and couple of single-carded repacks I bought are all going to go back. Scarlett isn't even a standout, but I wanted to get some for the kids since the legs are at least a better build...yet I still can't even get my hands on that one. The kids in my orbit all already have one version or another of these figures and vehicles. I can't keep waiting "one more Christmas" for this stuff. They're growing up. The GI Joe Christmas I was hoping to give them was starting to look very, very lame so I am making a course correction.

Everything I've read says that the modern figures are not designed to be played with. They're designed to be posed and displayed by adult collectors (Rank & File Book Intro says as much). Being new to the modern figures I totally agree with this. The old O ring guys had a backpack, gun and maybe something else you could lose. But they all were flexible and had their harnesses, grenades, holsters molded into the bodies. The new storm shadow came with so much gear, and some so TINY, I can't imagine a kid not instantly losing all of it. I just tossed it in a bag never to be opened again.
My older kids aren't interested in action figures but my 3 year old is into them. So I bought him some generic army set from amazon that came with a tank, helicopter, watch tower and maybe 3 guys and gear for $20. Like the old joes, these are cheap and tough but lack the detail a collector like me cares about. They are totally bland but they take a beating. I imagine that if he stays interested I'll transition him when he gets older but he can get his own stuff. Though I did "borrow" the watchtower from his set It's really hard to get your kids to like the stuff you're passionate about but I hope it works out and I think it's great to keep trying, I know I will. There have been accessories lost, absolutely. But not that many. That's not so different from when we were kids. Anyone still have an original Heavy Metal mic? Serpentor daggers aren't cheap, either. This isn't a new phenomenon. I agree the throwing stars and whatever those little "F-shaped" things are that came with Storm Shadow were almost designed to be lost, but these modern figures are absolutely suitable for play by kids. It's the only reason I buy them.
