Found a recent interview with Olmec's founder, as well as a nice overview on a toy blog.
Olmec went under just as the 1997 Bronze Bombers came out. It was their last product release. Allegedly, Olmec was still in possession of the molds they bought from Hasbro when they went into bankruptcy proceedings, and the molds were stripped for scrap. Hasbro never got the molds back, which is why they were never able to issue repaints for Skidmark, Darklon, Wild Boar, Strato Viper, Secto Viper, Motor Viper, or Track Viper/Nitro Viper. I bought a Persuader from Argentina at a toy show in the late '90s just to get the exclusive version of Back-Stop it came with. I later sold the Persuader itself (which was identical to the U.S. version aside from the stickers, and was never a vehicle I cared for). Yet I kept the box for some reason. It's not perfect, but it's intact and in reasonably good shape. Still even has the file card on the back.
The YoJoe listing for this mistakenly has a page heading calling it the A.T.I.L.A., which was the Brazilian version of Destro's Dominator. Last edited by Josh Z; 11-05-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

I only knew about MASH figures because they were listed on the "Bad Guys" card, the generic baddies to fight Joes, Sgt Rock, MASH, the A-Team, Magnum PI.... pretty much anyone you could think of lol

Here's another custom I did back in the day. Not sure what my rationale was for choosing this color pattern. I think I was just disappointed with the 1997 Baroness reissue and thought I could do better.
In retrospect, I probably should have tried to make the blue and yellow uniform from Issue #1 of the comic book. The body sculpt is a little different, but I'm sure it could be done. Last edited by Josh Z; 11-05-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

Speaking of comic Issue #1, here's my oversized Treasury Edition copy. It's beat-up to hell from a thousand readings and very faded, but I'm glad to still have it.
The later Tales of G.I. Joe reprint is pictured next to it for scale. Last edited by Josh Z; 11-05-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |

I'd hate to paint over her again with another layer, but I'm sure I'd have to. I'll never match the shade of blue I used the last time, two decades ago.
I'm sure some intrepid customizer has already done a better job of it than I'm capable of, anyway. Feel free to share links if you've seen one. |

I wonder if a Mortal Kombat Sonya Blade (which is just Jinx's body in a lighter color that would be easy to paint over) would make a good upper body for a Baroness custom? Problem is that this torso is designed for a nodding head, and I don't think there's been a good Baroness sculpt with that type of neck. Last edited by Josh Z; 11-05-2022 at 03:24 PM.. |
