I am branching out a bit from my 1:12 scale VAMP since I already had a HISS tank modeled pretty well from an earlier project.
First up, I printed a test piece of the tank tread using some pretty low-quality "draft" print settings just to get it to print faster. Here is the result: I only have the Eco Warriors version of the tank so that's all I can use for comparison shots. The 1:12 HISS will be a normal v1 HISS (or as close to it as I can manage). I need to adjust the geometry for better "roundness" of curves since right now the circles are actually relatively low-count n-gons. This is most noticeable on the bogey wheels. This model was originally made for 1:324 scale so that file-size "cost saving" measure was OK back then but when scaling back up it becomes a noticeable issue so I need to address it. I also have to adjust and correct some of the placement and shapes of some of the fine details. But overall, the tread test print is very encouraging for the prospects of the final print. The only real obstacle I can foresee is the canopy. I need to figure out a clear canopy in 1:12 scale and that's a stumper so far. If push comes to shove, I'll model an armored alternative for the canopy.

That's really cool man, and if this 6" Joe line takes off, you could have a real money maker on your hands.
For that canopy you could always vacuum form the clear part, then print a separate piece for the attachment point and glue it in place. Good luck with the project! |

Thanks guys. I posted in the vehicle parts BST thread already, but I figured I would re-post it here as well...
I'm looking for a turret and cannons for the original HISS or any other version that used that exact mold. All I have is the Septic Tank version so I can't really model the turret except by approximation from reference photos. I'd really prefer to get measurements from a physical part to maximize accuracy. If anyone has a spare turret and cannons (even if they're broken) please get in touch. EDIT: I now have access to a vintage HISS turret/guns.

I've been dreaming for years to make larger Hiss V1 shell to replace the really mechanical looking HIss II sides so they are smooth but just haven't gotten to it since I have so many projects in my mind

Did you see this?

The only part of my model that wasn't measured for was the turret since I didn't have one on-hand. I did manage to get my hands on a turret now though but thank you very much for the offer. As for not having time for all of the ideas...too true! I'm currently working on this, a laser rifle for 1:12, an upgraded set of seats for the vintage Skystriker (with a proper RIO station and realistic seats), and a handful of other projects all at random when time permits. I want to do them all and more but there are never enough hours in the day.

Love the idea and the treads look great so far!
As for the canopy, since it's a larger scale, what about modeling it, printing it solid enough for vacuforming a clear copy? Worst case scenario with that, add some corners for cleanup. Can't wait to see more!
