Take Duke on one hand. To me, this is classic Duke, through and through--minus the shin guards, which may be removable. They don't look molded on, to me. Sans the shin guards, how classic would you rate this Duke? Then take Scarlett. This is clearly a more radical update. This figure has taken heat (including from me) but it seems that some of that heat has spread out to the line as a whole and to other figures, who don't deserve it nearly as much (Duke and Snake Eyes, for example). I totally understand the more "keep it 90% ARAH" people complaining about Scarlett. Even Roadblock, to a lesser degree. But Duke and Snakes? Eh, not so much. I am actually closer to the ARAH-based side, than the other. Snake Eyes and Duke (sans the shin guards) are what I want from the line. Scarlett, not so much. That said, I am not opposed to buying a more radical update, if it strikes my fancy enough. I have said, that Scalett would be much improved with Resolute-style boots. To me, the inherent flaw isn't so much that she is a more radical update, but that there are design choices (the boots, the shoulder armor) that I don't care for.

It's irritating that the box art for each of the 4 figures are in COMPLETELY different styles. It really shows the Fortnite aesthetic in play in this line. Fortnite is a "throw in everything but the kitchen sink" property where gingerbread men are fighting against guys in bunny rabbit suits, or something. The clashing box art spills over somewhat into the figures, where Duke has semi-realistic guns but Roadblock has a big sci-fi gun and Scarlett has an anime-style face while Duke's face looks like a highly detailed Todd McFarlane caricature.
Fortnite itself was definitely inspired by G.I. Joe a bit. Joe was a property that had a certain amount of clash in its costumes and concepts, with guys in sailor suits with parrots mixed with hardcore military types and ninjas and Indians and cowboys and biker gangs. But the toy line did hold to a consistent visual style during its heyday. That's one thing that seems to be lost in the new line. And the box art shows that they're CHOOSING to be inconsistent visually as a stylistic choice. And I really don't think that is the right choice for this brand. G.I. Joe isn't THAT campy, crazy or comedic. It always took enough effort to make you BELIEVE all these concepts could exist in the same world by making the visual look and style of its world consistent. |

Didn't want 6" figures; didn't want redesigns; don't think it's the way forward for the brand...
But voted for the redesigns. The new figures are probably Habsro's best attempt to cover a lot of ground - from trying to appeal to OG fans, to bringing in some interest from the kiddies - while establishing a tweaked look for characters that they can run with going forward. Edit: And, honestly, I do think they do look good enough for $20. Edit 2: And, even though I only collect 3.75" o-ring figures, some of the design choices etc. in the vintage line were actually a little dumb. Can't blame anyone for tweaking (whether it's in comics or plastic). Last edited by Eight; 02-25-2020 at 04:06 AM.. |

No it was clearly not. Fortnite was a completely different game that had zero similarities at all to GI Joe for several years. The only slight similarities that cropped up came later and are few and far between. It's like folks taking random blond guy character from Fortnite and going OMG ITS DUKE. Yet ignores 99% of the artwork and character designs in the game. Same thing happened with the one skin that seemed Firefly like... again ignores the hundreds of other costumes in the game that are nothing like GI Joe.

Also it's hillarious to see your complaints, as you know those were the exact same compaints made when ARAH came to be, the old GI Joe fans of the realistic army "dolls" hated ARAH and how it was not realistic, goofy outfits, sci fi elements out of comic books. And not campy and goofy? Yea someone needs to go back and read those old Hama books, they are goofy as all hell, they are campy 80's comic books. Unlike the cartoons they were willing to kill people, but the writing and plots were pure stinky cheese. All we are seeing is the cycle of hate that always happens "they changed things!" *old man shakes fist at the sky* Last edited by PanzerKrake; 02-25-2020 at 10:50 AM.. |

The art style consistency is simply "I don't like this", the toys themselves are in line with each other, they are doing something different with the side art on packaging, but to act like the line is not being consistent when the 2020 poster revealed is very much consistent art and design wise.

Only because they changed things for the worse. To pretend that the critics of this line never liked anything invented after the '80s is completely absurd and baseless. We like both Marvel Legends and Secret Wars. We like both DC Universe and Super Powers. We like both Masters of the Universe Classics and the 1980s figures. Do we like the crappy new TMNT line on the shelves now though? No. But we love NECA's TMNT figures based on the movies and cartoons. What this new Joe line is is simply the same kind of thing Playmates is doing for TMNT...some cheesy redesigns made up by some bad artists that do NOT look good and will NOT stand the test of time.

I was hoping for ARAH designs, maybe with a little modern thrown in. But I'm still buying what we are getting.

I don't think I've ever seen someone so triggered once this line was released. I'm not voting because your choices suck.
Once this line succeeds(and it will) and Hasbro has some throw backs I'm coming to troll this thread. |

Also I’m not at all surprised about Jedi Jones going off the wall as that’s all he’s ever done in the past. There’s no pleasing him no matter what Hasbro does. He always finds something to complain about. |
