Thanks!
How about an old western saloon/store facade? I'm going to have to print this one in pieces...

I finally got around to printing a test piece of the LANTIRN targeting pod for the Skystriker's F-14 upgrade kit. I knew I was seriously pushing my luck with the flexibility needed for the connection areas so it wasn't shocking at all when I snapped pieces off. I just need to update the construction to work with the utterly inflexible PLA material I am using. The Shapeways nylon material would have survived this just fine. Here is the carnage:
A bit crooked with one of the tabs snapped off, but it still basically goes together: Once pieced back together, the overall model is working out very well. Articulation works: Reference:

And some engine nozzle sizing tests for the vintage Skystriker...
Nozzles printed in an "open" position: Nozzles printed in a "closed" position: And finally, a test print of the differently-scaled version necessary for the modern-era versions of the Skystriker:

OMG! Zap! You are coming a long way with this 3D printing!
You know what would be cool? If you could print pieces of say, the Alpha Checkpoint, in scale for modern Joes. You think that's possible? |

Here is a rough test of the Skystriker seat. It still needs refinement and smoothing, but the overall shape and size is working:
I broke the seat when putting it in, so a change of print orientation is on the horizon. And here is a quick test of rear landing gear: And finally, a test of two of the missile sizes: Again, some work to be done on the print settings since I lost the fins on the bottom side of the print due to poor adhesion on those spots (top side of the missiles since they were printed upside-down).

Thanks! Anything is possible, but I don't happen to own a checkpoint so that one's going to have to wait...indefinitely. Once the parts are measured and modeled it's generally really trivial to re-scale them though.

I had some requests for replacement parts for modern-era vehicles, so here are my current drafts of the HUD from the modern-era Skystriker and the control stick from the Eaglehawk (modern-era version of the Tomahawk):

And a few photos of the 3d printed test piece of the Eaglehawk control stick:
