Thanks Tank, got the wheels turning in my head. Seems like most Pathfinder units are disbanded, but the aviation units have a Pathfinder unit. They do need engineers though to clear runways, but those must be attached.

Wow this soldier has Switch Gears (with a Special Forces twist) written all over him:
https://dod.defense.gov/About/Biogra...ck-l-mccauley/ Three MOS's much like a lot of the Original 13.I was going to knock one MOS off some of them in my Joeverse to bring it down to two but after reading this I am re-thinking that. |

Dude that's a real GI Joe. Look how hard it is for him to smile. He's seen some things I bet.

What amazes me is that he was only in the Marines for two years before jumping over to the Army. Seems the USMC would have kept him at least four years. I would assume he was able to keep his rank as he went Special Forces in 1989 meaning he was in the service for only three years. If I recall one had to be promotable to E-5 before trying out for SF selection meaning he shot up the ranks rather quickly. In the span of nine years he drove a tank, was an intelligence analyst, went Special Forces before going to Delta (assuming that is the SMU mentioned in there). Looks like he had K9 experience while in Delta as well. Reads like a G.I. Joe filecard! Maybe as part of a NATO exchange program? |

So I have been thinking of making all of my pilots act as Air Liaison Officers (since I don't use fighter jets in my Joe-verse). Seems the requirements for an Air Force ALO used to be that the person had to be a rated officer. Since 2009-ish that requirement was taken away. I imagine that ALO's now can be either rated or non-rated. The Marines seem to have made being a pilot still a requirement. According to Wikipedia each battalion has a FAC party which consists of three FAC's and three JTAC's. Each of the three FAC's come from different aviation backgrounds, so one fighter pilot, one tactical helicopter pilot and one assault support pilot. The three JTAC's are typically from an artillery background. Thinking of the Joes I can easily see the following FAC party: Ace as the fighter pilot, Wild Bill as the tactical helicopter pilot and Lift-Ticket as the assault support pilot. The three JTAC's could be Grand-Slam, Thunder and Long Range. Just thought I would throw that out there in case anyone tries to justify their pilots and artillery Joes like I constantly do. |

My Joe Team also have a few C-5 Galaxy air frames (The team had them in the IDW comic)on call for them at nearby 105th Military Airlift Group/Military Airlift Wing/Airlift Wing in Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York. This is how I justify a "Star Brigade", the air frames are owned, maintained and under administrative control of the Air National Guard but by a service level agreement they have at least 3 ready to go for Joe use (call signs: Defiant, Crusader and Avenger) and a few C-130's. |

I made all my fighter pilots drone pilots instead. The drones just have individual call signs, so Phantom, Sky Raven, Night Boomer and Ghost Striker are ISR drones and Sky Striker, Conquest, etc are the drones with hellfire missiles.

The other side of the coin is when the Joes deploy who are the crew that sets up the drones from a remote location? I haven't delved too deeply into drone crews so was wondering what specialty code they would be and how many would be needed to get a drone up and running? Sounds like your C-130 and C-5 crews are "greenshirts" so to speak? Also what roles do you have your helicopter pilots in? I wanted to make mine Blackhawk pilots but of the five Joe helicopter pilots only one is technically a transport helicopter pilot. The other four are attack helicopter pilots. I am pretty sure they could all fly any type of helicopter but why would the Joes hire an Apache pilot to fly their Blackhawks? Or hire a Blackhawk pilot to fly a Little Bird? |

you could invent your own drones for them to fly from a field base...
