Interesting.
It may be worth noting that ARAH (Action Force) really didn’t have the same level of cultural impact or significance in the UK as something like Transformers, He Man, Thundercats or TMNT. The Joe cartoon was never shown on UK TV like the other properties were. Action Force was very much of its time and it probably only resonates with guys who were the right age in the early 80’s. If you said GI Joe to someone in the UK, they would more than likely have said that it was the US version of the old Action Man dolls and have no knowledge of Action Force/ARAH. So the British actors were unlikely to have a clue about the GI Joe franchise or the characters that they were portraying. |

I think I speak for a great many people when I say I’m sick of these childish actors biting the hand that fed them. A great singer can sing the phone book and sell it. A great actor can make any role great in spite of the script. Whining about it 9 years later just tells me he wasn’t worth the paycheck he received and I wish Destro was killed off like Duke in Retaliation.

This guy and Hugo Weaving can eat it. They both take roles of Marvel and Hasbro characters, collect a large check for the roles, and then bash them... Michael Bay responded to Hugo Weaving once and it made me gain respect for him for calling out the ungrateful actor. He made millions to simply record the lines for Megatron and happily took the money. This d bag was AWFUL as Destro and is not a lead or draw by anyone’s standards. Who gives a damn about what he thinks.

It's also worth noting that most folks thought he gave one of the best performances across the two films. Quote:
Here's the simple truth: There are a lot of actors/actresses that really prefer acting opposite real people, on actual sets. So the big FX-heavy blockbusters are in fact a chore for them. Green screens and "act at the tennis ball" are difficult for a lot of actors (sometimes even more so if you're under heavy makeup ala Malekith in Thor: The Dark World). The problem is that big FX-heavy blockbusters are where the money is at, and getting that visibility can lead to greater opportunities to do the kinds of acting you WANT to do. Yeah sure, there are a few pretentious jerks out there too, but it's been what...eight or nine years since RoC now? Who does it hurt to be honest about not enjoying making the movie? Bear in mind that making movies is a lot less fun than watching them (especially on the big studio blockbusters), and while we might be super-passionate about the material the people acting in those movies usually aren't (and if you think you can find an entire case of hardcore G.I. Joe fans to play in the next movie well...let's just say it's unlikely to be a very aesthetically-accurate cast...). There's also a point where people worry about being typecast (as was the case with Hugo Weaving and the Red Skull). Hugo Weaving didn't say it was a bad movie or that the Red Skull was a bad character per se. He didn't badmouth the other people involved with the production. He just was a little disappointed that it was the same kind of role he's done a bunch of times and he was getting pretty tired of it. Last edited by Jmacq1; 03-21-2018 at 08:38 AM.. |

I get how we can all take what he said to heart but who cares? The whole movie sucked from top to bottom. No matter who was acting in that movie they could not turn around the script that had Cobra Commander and the Baroness as brother and sister. Or how Duke was a captain and not a SGT and how Snake eyes who did not talk had a mouth on his mask.

All these actors treated it like a joke and their next paycheck. It's cool to fail sometimes but to have this attitude sucks. Yeah the movie was bad but it put more eyes on G.I. Joe since it's highlight days in the 80's (for us) and now we have an chance to reclaim that fame. Was it that bad after all? Play long ball.

If you've ever watched ANYTHING Byung Hun Lee has done in Korea (Good the Bad and the Weird, I Saw the Devil, etc.) this dude is one of the finest actors in the world. He's done yeoman's work in a lot of US films as well, despite not speaking English fluently. He is a consummate professional. He sells everything he does, so some of you are right, you can make lemonade from a lemon. I do agree with the sentiment about the green screens. I believe that must be hard, and it's why I prefer films that rely on practical sets and FX. That doesn't mean you can't use some of that training to make the best of it. I mean, Ewan McGregor SOLD Obi Wan in the prequels. Natalie Portman phoned in every second she spent on screen. I actually thought Eccleston gave good effort in ROC, he was just miscast. I can separate his performance (which was decent among some bad ones) from his snarky whining now. Tatum, who I like, gave no effort. And Quaid, I appreciated his effort, but they shoulda renamed that character General Ham. So over-the-top.

Tatum was horrible. He’s a lousy actor no matter what he’s in. Very poor choice for Duke.

Rise of Cobra was not a good film, but Destro is right about it bringing G.I. Joe into the spotlight again. Maybe the next one will bring us back where we all want to be.
