I love the back cover of the issue. The Guard is great. It's a little abstract and out of proportion but it works for the Oktober Guard. Don't really like the front cover. Golden is one out of two here in my humble opinion. The USS Flagg ad just makes me so envious of any kid who got one in the 80's.
Do we know who the creative team is on this issue? |

I don't have a copy of this currently.
I will say I read that yearbook so many times as a kid that my older brother had to hide it from me. Mostly for the Triple Play story. The rest of the material seems superfluous in the internet age, but at the time a cover gallery was neat. Cobra's "best" is pretty worthless against 6 Soviet goons. I mean, an issue like this is great fun, but Cobra loses 2 ground attack jets, a large helicopter, FANGS, flight pods...and gets nothing. People like to say that Cobra wins in the comic, but they lose a lot, too. Dusty apparently debuts in this yearbook. Last edited by Sean_C; 06-28-2017 at 08:51 PM.. |

Pretty sure Michael Golden did the art for the Triple Play story. The writing seems like Hama. The rest, no idea.

This was one of my favorite comics. Right up there with #21.

This was an all-around great G.I. Joe comic. I love the cover, and the art inside is great (look at that beautiful swarm of COBRA aircraft assaulting the train)! So many of the classic COBRA vehicles get a workout (and worked over). Stingers!! We even get Firefly and some Eels exercising their military specialties to demolish the bridge.
The Joes have Destro and Baroness in custody...do they just steam away in the freighter and leave them there? |

This issue make me wish that Golden had done the whole run. His art is a little cartoony at times, but it still rocks.
The Scandinavian issues were a bit behind (debuting in '88 with #44/#45), and they were 2 issues combined each month. Triple Play was in the same issue as Silent Interlude (the only pre-#44 story released, due to its awesomeness, i guess), so needless to say, i read the shit out of that one. Still my favourite two stories. |

Argh! I don't have this one.
But yeah, the whole War on Terror has kind of put these behind the times. I laugh when I read about Cobra Island being a sovereign nation. That wouldn't last two seconds in the post-9/11 world. |

Not quite sure how I feel about this issue. Definitely not bad, but could maybe use more Joes (page-time, not number!) in it. It's a bit of a proto-SM issue.
The OG are a group I wasn't a fan of as a kid. They weren't even toys, and I could tell without actually knowing it! But as an adult I can see the appeal. Somebody forgot the credits from the first page. Clearly Hama at the helm, though. This is like the most Hama issue ever. Golden also goes into the fairly good category for me. Yeah, his style is a bit too cartoony at times, so I haven't gotten all the hype he tends to get. Still, I'd take him over most of the artists we've seen so far. There are a lot of awesome, minor details in a lot of panels. Too bad he was useless with deadlines. Golden also deserves credit for the vehicles. Not just the OG stuff, either. How many of you noticed this is the first appearance of the legendary Cobra transport chopper? Can't believe Hasbro couldn't see the money written all over that thing and gave us a Mamba instead! There are several other first appearances, too. Cobra has Tele-Vipers and blink and you'll miss 'em Eels. Alpine gets a cameo, and yes, this is actually the first appearance of Dusty, he's just hidden in rags for most of the issue. He's threatening Baroness on the last page. Not sure if even Hama was aware of it, cuz he forgets all about Dusty for a year. Colorist certainly wasn't aware, as he has Ripcord's colors. Fooled me for years! So, how many of you Yanks pronounced Dragonsky as Dragon-Sky as a kid? Congratulations to him for turning 80 this year, BTW! Quote:

Time to play spot the Joe! Help me out here:
The team on the spying mission is Spirit, Footloose, Stalker, Flint and yes, Dusty. Duke and Alpine carrying the laser. Cutter and Deep Six on the balcony. Second row: Bazooka, Flash? (Ripcord?), Scarlett? (Cover Girl?), Breaker, Lady Jaye?, Airborne, Grunt, Rock 'N Roll, Torpedo, Shipwreck. First row: Snake-Eyes, Mutt, Airtight, Roadblock, Blowtorch, Recondo, Gung-Ho, Zap, Barbecue. Haha, Airtight is threatening the OG with his vacuum cleaner. "Make my day, punks!"
