So with Hasbro being aloof and the club boarding up soon and being one of those who would liked to have seen every ARAH updated. Looks like I'm getting into customizing. I need ideas for ARAH updates that have been made yet that can be done with only web gear and head swaps, no painting.

It sounds kinda like kitbashing, if what you are wanting to do is just swap heads and gear. I do something similar to that and on some, I add a little paint to them and they become a completely different figure that is not a Joe character. Like for example, Duke, I don't put his head on a different body to make another version of him, I make a new character with a different name.

I have been able to make a fair share of customs by kitbashing, and by painting pelvises. I'm terrible at paint across joints. If you paint the pelvis, you have more options with leg swaps.
I've posted a lot, like many others on this thread: http://www.hisstank.com/forum/g-i-jo...ow-em-off.html You can search my thread history as well. I was able to update the early vehicle drivers, some of the OG 13, and some AF figures. You can also look up Nighthawk's thread history. He's very good at throwing parts together with no joint paint to make some awesome updates. Have fun man!!! I look forward to updating my 25th figures in POC style over the next 2 years.

Kitbashing - combining parts with no paint
Customizing - painting, sculpting and anything else. This is beginning to eat my soul when browsing around. Maybe im just an asshole but there is a difference.

These are all great examples for the OP. Rabbit is correct though...kitbashing is throwing parts together and calling it a day. Customizing takes time, talent and patience.... none of which I seem to have...but I press on smartly.

Does anybody have a list of what other figures used the accelerator armor and the FSS Flagg torso?

Duke, Ripcord and Speed Metal have the same body. Barricade and Black Vulture also have the same body as the others, but their arms are different. Firefly ver.27 and Storm Shadow ver.33 have the same torso as General Flagg.

You are partially right that it would take a day to throw parts together and call it a figure if you have the parts on hand, but you are also partially wrong on that as well. Kitbashing does also take time, talent and patience when making a figure. Kitbashing and customizing have the same goal and that is making a custom figure. Some kitbashing takes a little to no paint and customizing takes alot of paint.

Semantics? I'm in!
Kitbashing is a type of activity that exists under the umbrella of customizing. If it's not the factory-released version then it's a custom...whether painted, sculpted, chopped, glued or not. Kitbashes are just (generally speaking) the easiest to do. They take less dexterity than painting or sculpting so the practice is poo-pooed by some. But if you think about it, kitbashing is usually at the base of most customs. It is the foundation, and paint and sculpting just build onto it. Ultimately, we're really just arguing about the depth of customization. And, for the record, applying a wash on a factory figure takes less skill/planning/creativity than a clever-but-unpainted kitbash. To elevate the wash over the kitbash by merit of paint alone is arbitrary silliness.
