For those of you interested in the history of this toy, be sure to scroll down for the Creator Commentary, where Guy Cassaday (R+D designer) discusses his inspiration for the Rolling Thunder, a Marine APC from the 1986 film, Aliens. He also discusses the juxtaposition of Moms protesting outside of Hasbro while he's inside developing "a toy of mass destruction." Thanks for the interview, Guy Cassaday!!!!

I traded a singular Star Wars figure for a complete Rolling Thunder... good trade.

The G.I.Joe Magazine archive is complete, documenting every page of fun!
G.I.Joe Magazine overview - 3DJOES G.I.Joe Magazine first appeared in the winter of 1985. It would not appear again until two years later. The Winter 1987 issue kicked off a two-year quarterly run serving up eight more issues through 1987 and 1988. Each issue featured "stories about sports, the outdoors, action movies and entertainment and real-life excitement." Each issue also featured "an action-packed tale of G.I.Joes in the field, a colorful poster and games and quizzes to play." There are some wonderful painted covers and posters, with art by Hector Garrido, Dave Dorman, and more. There are some interesting stories of Joes in the field, complete with all new illustrations (some great, some.... not so great). Head on over to the archive and enjoy! |

I even photoshopped the bar codes off of the covers for use in my books. It's the details!

Ha! Nope, I'm focused solely on domestic US 1982-1994... and I've still got a lot more to cover. I do wish some crazy international collector would step up to build International3DJoes, and a crazy modern collector would step up to build Modern3DJoes. I'll show them how.

Congrats on getting all those magazines, they look great! Just last year I finished collecting a full set of them, with the posters still intact. The Summer 1988 issue that was the hardest to find, for me. Took almost four years to finally find a copy of it and complete the set.

Being an avid 82-94 collector, I LOVE collecting peripheral stuff like this. Next up is a lunchbox page :-) |
