That said, I still have a "movie verse" spot in my collection so I'm still back collecting the line. Need a ROC destro |

I'd save this line by allowing Hasbro to try a new direction, not bitch about it, and see what they do. ARAH has had a great run....the only constant in life is change. All of us hard corp ARAH people keep trying to hang on...almost like a family member on life support...because we can't let go, for our own selfish reasons. We like to bag on Hasbro in here but remember, they gave us Joe in the first place. I'm not jumping on their bandwagon..I just really want to see what this brand can do with some real support behind it...in any form that it takes. To me..that is a win.

Maybe its just me , but I didn't notice the jump in quality from 25th to ROC. Not as much of a drastic jump as say ROC to POC anyway. Personally, the nostalgic feeling of walking into a toy store in 2007 and seeing all those arah joes on pegs for first time since the 80s just doesn't compare. Not to say I didn't get goosebumps seeing all the ROC figures for first time with the movie hype, but just wasn't as impactful as seeing the 25th. Spoke to my inner childhood that few modern lines (if any aside from the 2012 Star wars vintage line) have done.

I've been doing some thinking about how Hasbro could save this franchise.
It seems that The Transformers, as a property, seems to be doing quite well. Optionally, they can use that property to relaunch GI Joe, to some extent. Totally Optional: If they can combine it with Transformers ( at least at the outset) for the reboot of the GI Joe concept. It has to be done in conjunction with two things: 1. A Transformers/GI Joe live action movie. Make Cobra into evil humanoid space aliens and have them be the 'masterminds behind evil Transformers' (Decepticons?) Thereby reinventing the concept of 'the good guys GI Joe' as a psuedo-military/sci-fi/space space marines force. The Rock teams up with Optimus Prime (or any good Autobot leader?) and creates an all new GI Joe spec-ops force that pilots the "Military Smart Transforming Vehicles and Playsets". 2. Basically, the core concept is a relaunch of the GI Joe toy line at a smaller scale. I was thinking 1:24 scale. This can come with the new Movie. Or....forget the Movie and forget about Transformers... Fundamentally, they can return to the original core concept of 'an action vehicle line ' which gave us the beloved 3.25 scale. Well, now it is time to shrink GI Joe even more! Hear me out, guys: Hasbro can allow GI Joe to 'piggy back an existing successful property' which are The Transformers. Ironically, it is similar to the old M.A.S.K. line. At least in terms of scale. 1/24 and have it tie into the Transforming vehicle concept. However, the vehicles are "smart", they can be actual Aliens such as Transformers. These can App Controlled Vehicles that both Kids and Adults can enjoy together. Along with the highly collectible nature of the smaller scale. The versatile price points as well along with shelf space saving measures for a wider array of retailers The tiny figures can come in two packs and sell for less than 5 dollars. Blind-box single packaging (99 cent figures)? The vehicles can range anywhere from 5 to 10 bucks - to even more expensive and elaborate (smart app-controlled vehicles). How about 'drone' vehicles that you can shuttle around your little figures? Of course, I am thinking "App manipulated" vehicles when I mention the drones. App based "unlocks". Vehicles and Smart phone Apps that interact with one another. Social media interaction....? The beauty is you can also - just collect the tiny figures! "Collect them all mentality" which can tie directly into the Social Media utilization I mention. Social Media driven? Viral and meme driven collectors? So there is a ton of versatility that they can achieve with an all new smaller scale. Along with the current state of technology that cannot be ignored. I really think GI Joe needs a reboot like what I just described! |

There is one clear, obvious, and irrefutable way to save the brand: MORE LASERS!

Make a cartoon for kids, make it current but have it resonate with the 80s. I think the nickelodeon TMNT cartoon is a good example of fresh ideas, sprinkled with nostalgia for the old folks like us.
Make the toys less annoying to anyone not in their 30s, I would keep the articulation but drop the modular vests and crap unless it was very necessary. Make Cobra Commander a narcissist again. Give him a personality and humor. Tie the Transformers into a couple of episodes.
