I've have a co-worker that went to SW Celebration and ran into Ray Park. He said Ray is back in phenomenal shape again and when asked gave a "big smile" about a new Joe movie. Perhaps he will be at SDCC or Hascon, and this can be confirmed.

What is laughable is so-called Joe "fans" who never miss an opportunity to talk down and belittle the line. This is the only toy line I know where new product announcements ever get met with the response that people don't believe they'll ever actually be produced. When the line leaves pegwarmers behind, these people say it's a failure. Now when the line sells everything out that the retailer ordered, it's also considered a failure. Nothing's more tiresome than the self-loathing G.I. Joe fan who can't stop putting his own hobby down.

The fact is there is very little difference between G.I. Joe and an enormous number of other collector-focused toy lines in terms of popularity and distribution. Compare to NECA, Marvel Legends, Black Series Star Wars, etc. These are all healthy lines that sell out when the "right" amount is produced and pegwarm like the dickens when they are overproduced. Collector demand is a fixed number and does not expand just because retailers fill the shelves with too much product and put it in people's faces. All these lines are healthy if they produce the right amount. And G.I. Joe had an AMAZING success story this year which is VASTLY underreported and underappreciated. They produced the RIGHT amount, proving the line can cater to its fans and still be profitable, with demand high enough to justify production and leaving no product left over to go to clearance and create business losses. And they did it in such a short amount of time, that the next logical step is for them to produce two waves of product like this a year instead of one.
Oh, and there's one HUGE difference between G.I. Joe and "other collector lines" particularly Marvel Legends and Star Wars Black series: The latter two make MILLIONS more dollars for Hasbro and retailers than G.I. Joe does, and have mammoth multimedia franchises backing them. You actually claim there's "very little difference" in distribution between those lines? In case you haven't noticed, Marvel Legends and Star Wars Black series are distributed to every major retailer year round. G.I. Joe gets one shipment to one retailer at Christmastime, and may not even get that this year. But sure. "Very little difference." Oh yeah, and G.I. Joe is such a HUGE success...that Hasbro fired their brand manager for the line and shows no sign of replacing them particularly soon. That's a sure-fire sign of AMAZING success if I've ever seen one! [/sarcasm] So basically, we have direct evidence that internally, Hasbro considered the last few years a failure for G.I. Joe, because if it were an "amazing" success, they wouldn't have fired Mark Weber, they'd have promoted him. But hey, that's just "econ 101" stuff. Quote:
Except it hasn't sold out constantly or thoroughly in the past. The prior years have been hallmarked by post-holiday clearances, and since 2014, it seems more obvious to me that the support of online retailers BBTS and Entertainment Earth have been quite instrumental in getting the product produced at all.
Yes, it's great GI Joe sold through its limited run, but I'm not sure I would classify as a grand success when they probably sold more (and made more money) on any number of other, more mass market, lines. Last edited by Jmacq1; 05-25-2017 at 01:04 PM.. |

There were 6 new Action Man figures out last year btw. There won't be any Revolutionaries tie-in figures for Action Man as the company that has the license are doing the retro 50th anniversary thing with them, Action Soldier, Footballer, Paratrooper etc.
But I'd be very happy to see new MASK or Visionaries toys.
