One issue with the 25th was there was no media tie in to keep it going. Those products were bought up by collectors not kids. Collectors are fickle and don't necessarily want their 7th Rattler or 5th conquest in so many years. Plus they were transitioning to the RoC movie which had the opposite issue, great toys in good art and packaging but the movie didn't resonate with either fans or kids. Plus Hasbro dumped a ton of merchandise for the movie which lead to peg warmers and clearance again.
I remember Larry Hama said somewhere that corporations don't have a person who sole job is to look after the brand/mythos/etc long term. I get that with SW and Marvel because they are licenses and gone any time. But Joe is their in house legacy brand and someone should be looking out for the brand/mythos as whole. I'm sure 6" would spark some demand initially and look like a success but it would fade in a wave or two and then used as an excuse why Joe isn't viable. |

it might be a dick thing to say, i dont know. but every time i see a line go 6" scale it just makes me despise people for supporting something i feel is being forced on us. ive said it before, i have collected the 3 3/4"/1:18 scale exclusively since about 90 not counting the collecting and playing years before that. and i have hundreds of figures (i think this is an understatement) from all sorts of lines and there is NO way i am going to start over or change that.
i dont know where this 6" stuff started and all these collectors came from, was it spawn, was it marvel legends, was it something else? but i think having the 4" scale and the 6" scale is just making both properties weaker, having the small collecting base now basically split into two camps competing against each other with only half of your base buying your product depending on scale. and it seems the toy companies realizing they can charge twice as much for not much more initial investment have chosen to brand 6" as the collector scale. when 4 horsemen changed their mythic legions from 4" to 6" at the last second is when i officially got pissed off about it. now i genuinely get angry every time i hear of something cool thats going to be done 6" instead of 4". |

Why don't they just do a kickstarter once a year. That way they get their funds and we get what we want and everybody's happy. Retail won't touch it so go direct to consumers. Its obvious that kickstarters is the future anyway. Retail is fading away into the sunset.

I certainly don't think 6" would save or help Joe. But I'm not adverse to different scales. To me 3 3/4-4" or 12" is standard but think of all the other sizes in 52 years... Microforce, Kreon, Combat Heroes, Sigma Six (two sizes), Extremme, Sgt Savage, 8" Super Joe. Most of them aren't long term or what you would call successful but they do exist and had fans (well maybe not Extreme). And I'm only counting the mass retail stuff not things like Mighty Muggs, Loyal Subject, Gentle Giant, etc.

It's the same thing that makes a Lego Batman movie a huge success. GiJoe probably wouldn't have the huge international appeal, as a stop motion movie, but as a half hour show maybe in two episodes I imagine it could work. But it would have to be funny as shit, and a toy tie-in would be critical for long term sustainability. And I say NO to 6-inch. If the brand were bigger I would be all for it, but the way the stores dictate the toy line, versus the fans I could see it resulting in killing the brand for Brick and mortar stores. Although in the long run that might be a better thing. Online sales is where we are going, why Hasbro hasn't bulked this up I never understood. We are almost exclusively a niche collector group. Could you imagine if you went to Hasbro Toy shop and could buy all the Alley-Vipers you wanted or BATS or whatever? Then Hasbro could manage there stock better, and actually see what sells and what does not sell, and say have Cobra Troopers in stock forever? It would require having to tie-up some capital in maintaining inventory, but that could be a sunken cost for later write-offs. It's not like they would lose value. I bet they waste so much money trying to convince people to carry there products, and a majority of the stock is sold at Christmas anyway. How many new GIJoe Fans do you think are joining our ranks yearly? I bet you we NET negative number of fans every year. In about 10 years when some of us start becoming Grand parents, and start dropping off, the decline will be huge, and that's when the line will truly die. Unless, we get a significant increase in fans. Movie, Cartoon, does any one even read comics anymore? Digital or otherwise?

Personally, I would be all for a 6" line of Joes. They would make for incredible display pieces. I grew up with and love the 3 3/4"/1:18 scale. This is by far the best scale for vehicles and playsets, army building, large dioramas, etc. I will always love that scale. And I will never completely stop collecting Star Wars and G.I. Joes in that scale. It is too ingrained in this 40 something's blood! However, as I get older I have less and less interest in vehicles; but I still love my Star Wars and G.I. Joe characters. I never felt that the 6" Black Series was forced on us, and I welcomed it with open arms. It was a great chance to focus on the characters, start fresh for many, and that scale allows for incredible detail and articulation. Besides, I was getting tired of the 38th Luke Jedi, or 80th Vader! My only complaint, is I do feel Steve Evans has completely ignored fans of the super articulated 3 3/4" Star Wars figures. I mean Rogue One only got 4 figures! And two of them( Capt. Andor and Shoretrooper ) were impossible to find.
Honestly, there are only a few modern style joe updates that I want( Recoil, 1989 Stalker, CC/1989 Rock & Roll, 1991 Hawk w/jet pack, CC Cobra Officer, Modern Major Bludd, etc. ). After that new blood would be nice; like Stilletto. It has bean said, and I totally concur with the sentiment, the only thing that will help to reestablish G.I. Joe is media. It needs a new great cartoon or a new movie. Face it kids don't read comics anymore. My son is 11 and loves Star Wars and Transformers; but only mildly cares about Joes. The only time he really loved Joes( and asked for them in the stores ) was when the Renegades cartoon was airing. We watched it together, and he wanted to "play" out the episodes. So, I would love and be all for a 6" line of Joes. And having 6" Joes representing some of the most classic characters at retail stores is certainly better than nothing at all! I don't see how this could possibly be a bad thing. 4 waves of 6 each year( 1 per quarter ). Start with: Wave 1: 1. Snake Eyes( POC style with 82 and 85 heads ) 2. Duke 3. Scarlett 4. Cobra Commander( with battle mask and hooded heads ) 5. Storm Shadow( Retaliation Ultimate style ) 6. Cobra Trooper Wave 2: 1. Flint 2. Gung-Ho 3. Roadblock 4. Destro 5. Firefly 6. Cobra Officer Wave 3: 1. General Hawk 2. Stalker 3. Beach Head 4. Baroness 5. Zartan 6. Crimson Guard Wave 4: 1. Lady Jaye 2. Low-Light 3. Shipwreck( Dollar General style ) 4. Major Bludd 5. Dr. Mindbender( lab coat ) 6. Battle Android Trooper! |

My signature shows I've put my money where my mouth is, as many collectors have done. It would be so easy for Hasbro to put together a campaign and have stretch goals to entice and gauge fan interest.
