What about the FN P90? Technically not an SMG, but still...

The MAC-10 might be a crap weapon today, but in 1982 it was a fantastic "room broom". Lots of folks liked it because it could be chambered in .45, and it had silencers specifically designed for it. I think the Mini and Micro Uzi came out around then, and the smaller MP5 wasn't in circulation yet; I first remember seeing the Mini and Micro Uzi in Delta Force and Invasion USA.

the latter weapon being dependant on what era your basing your Joes in. MP7s are quite new guns. They didn't exist in the '80s.
SMGs I'd think the Joes would use would be: MP5K, Uzi/Mini Uzi, UMP in the 80s to 90s. In the 90s to '00s, MP5K or UMP. Present either the MP7 or the Vector. If they didn't just stick to the MP5. Quote:

On a tangent - what figures were labelled as experts in one weapon and came with something completely different? I'm sure there were a few. |

I always thought it was weird that Cobra Infantry got a Dragunov and the Officers got an AK. I would have given the Infantry the AK, saved the Dragunov for a sharpshooter figure, and given the Officer a Scorpion machine pistol, just to give them that Warsaw Pact feel.

Yeah that never made sense to me either. I like to treat the Black DG Cobras as Cobra Snipers. I don't mind the Officers getting the AK's, but the Dragunov made no sense as a standard issue weapon. It was a cool little awakening into the world of modern weapons, how GIJoe selected the weapons the figures would carry, but some sort of Submachine gun would have been more realistic.

CapBritan, I guess I meant that the P90 was originally marketers as a PDW, but I see your point that it's really a SMG. At any rate, I use a Marauders one for my 30th Lifeline sometimes.

meh, PDW is a weird designation. Army Air Corps Apache crews in Afghanistan carried an L85 carbine as a PDW in the event they were downed, so their personal defence weapon was effectively the same weapon the regular infantry used as their battle rifle.

Been a few days since I could get back to these. Here's #3 of the "Argen 7" from Argentina...
Topson (Argentina exclusive: “Breaker” in gray camouflage) – Comando de Comunicaciones ‘Command of Communications’ / Communications Commando’: COMMUNICATIONS COMMANDO Code Name: Shimik File Name: Barbieri, Frank SN: RA 367894536 Primary Military Specialty: Engineering Link [or, Liaison] Secondary Military Specialty: Instructor Grade: M-6 The Heroic Commandos know that the lack of communication between them, can derail their operating and remain thereby at the mercy of the Cobra. Therefore, they sought tirelessly who [could] solve the acute problem of being held incommunicado... and they found Topson, a true creative genius of communications systems, the only one able to override the anti-sound barriers of Cobra. Topson is a master engineer liaison and life instructor of the Heroic Commandos. |

#4 of the "Argen 7"...
Manleh ‘Manly’ (Argentina exclusive: Caucasian “Stalker” with goatee in blue camouflage) – Comando Paracaidista ‘Paratrooper Command / Paratrooper Commando’: PARATROOPER COMMANDO Code Name: Manleh File Name: Kavanagh, Jason SN: RA 384072331 Primary Military Specialty: Paratrooper Secondary Military Specialty: Airborne Art Grade: E-5 Part of the squad of incredible feats, Manleh, leader of the group, is the world champion of Military Parachuting, he holds the record for height and falls on fixed and mobile targets. (1000 points scored over 1000 points possible. Amazing!!) His specialty is parachuting in the midst of the most impenetrable darkness and in the most difficult places (gorges, forests, etc.) I'm not sure what "Airborne Art" is... Perhaps they meant "artist"? |
