So, was the it Enter the Ninja, with a post-Angolan bush war veteran-turned Ninja, who feuds with the rival from his clan? Featuring white ninjas, black ninjas, red ninjas, and a short guy with a hook for a hand (pirates vs ninjas?!)
Or was it The Octagon, with Chuck Norris, internal monologues, and a ninja feud stemming from childhood rivalry over an inability to share swords? Featuring terrorists, mercenaries, and scheming heiresses. And, of course, Chuck Norris' mustache! Or was it something else altogether? What obscure flicks inspired Hama et al to produce and develop the ninja tales running through America's elite and the world's terror syndicates? Cast your votes, offer your opinions, and keep your eye on the shadows! |

I think Hama has flat-out said the visual inspiration for Storm Shadow came from Enter the Ninja.
But given a look at the plot of both movies, I think it's safe to say that both films played their part, with Octagon probably lending a good bit more to the mythos itself. I mean I see this image and can't help but suddenly wonder if Snake-Eyes unmasked (pre-accident) was supposed to look a hell of a lot like Chuck Norris. |

Enter the Ninja, mainly because I'm a huge Shô Kosugi fan.
