Chu was not the issue.
Chu fought for things that kept to the comics. He was the one who fought against the studio when they wanted to cut the ninja scene because they didn't understand how you could have an eleven minute scene with no dialogue, he wanted Palicki to cut her hair, she refused. He wanted to clean up the mess that Stephen Sommers created. Sommers was still in charge he just was not as public about it. Chu's hands were tied. After seeing what happened with Jem however, I don't think we will see too much more of Chu on Hasbro properties.

I say "Meh." Listening to him on the What's on Joe Mind podcast, he genuinely loves the property, so I agree that he was not the biggest problem. But there was nothing in the movie that struck me as being so unique visually or tonally that could not have been achieved by any other generic action director. I wouldn't mind him again, particularly if it keeps it out of the hands of a Sommers, Ratner, Bay type.
