Every new line has a new type of cobra trooper. Some have a very specific function, others are more generic. At some point you have so much different troopers that is becomes quit hard to get some structure in your troopers.
How do you integrate for example the resolute trooper with the renegades trooper, the viper and the new blueshirt trooper in one single force structure? I'm leaving out the movie troopers because ethey are for the most impossible to integrate |

I see Cobra as a cell-type structure. No one knows the names or identities of others in the cell, hence the masks. With the dispersion of cells, there's a bit of variation between baseline uniforms, hence all the different blue shirt and basic viper looks. For specific jobs, cells receive some specialised training and equipment, hence the specialised Viper outfits. For basic combat tasks, cells mix and match weapons (a sniper, an RPG gunner, a SAW Viper and a rifleman). In short, the basic guys with all the different looks are just different cells in different cities.

Well, the Resolute troopers sort of look like a dress uniform. The renegade troopers look more like they are some sort of working party, ie maybe repairing structures, cleaning weapons. You could take the US Army or USMC and if you had an action figure in each different uniform, you might wonder if they are all part of the same organization.

It depends on how you see Cobra. Large legit world power with a standing army? A highly-organized terrorist movement? A corporate powerhouse with a private army? A smaller organization of high-tech specialists and mercenaries?
I don't worry about it these days since I don't army build new stuff. Every new figure might as well be an individual. |

I like LowTech's explanation as it makes a lot of sense, and I think I employ that same thought to some degree. I treat the Blueshirts separate from Vipers. So that is a different conversation.
But as far as the regular Blueshirt types: Bazooka troops are just Blueshirts. Night Watch are just Blueshirts on night duty I don't have enough Retaliation Troops to have an opinion on. Resolute Troops I use as Cobra Bounty Hunters. Not as highly trained as Vipers, but similar training to US Marshalls. DTC Troopers I use as Cobra Naval troops (Sailors) They seemed to be wearing Wetsuits. Renegade Cobra Troopers I use as units loyal to Khalikhan, but essentially Blueshirts. Maybe I should give them a different name, as I assume these individuals would be coming from that part of the world with a strong Mughal influence. DG Black troopers I use as Cobra Snipers. Cobra Shock troopers are on par with Alley-Vipers, but come from the ranks of the Blueshirts rather than the Viper Corps.

My Cobra Army is broken down into two factions: Cobra Commander's army, and Serpentor's faction. The POC/30th Cobra Troopers are Cobra Commander's base grunt army. The POC/30th Vipers are his more elite troopers( like the Marines). Shock Troopers are highly elite specialists used for S.W.A.T. Type missions. All the other Viper Corps fall under their specialties.
The Resolute Troopers are Serpentor's base grunt army. There are far less of them than CC's troopers, but they are better trained, and better armed. The Renegade Troopers are his security troopers. The 25th Vipers from the box set are his elite Skull Squad Troopers( named for the skull emblem on their arms ). Serpentor also uses his own army of B.A.T.S. and has most of the Elite Viper Corps that Cobra Commander does, just not as many. I set up a diorama a couple of years ago with the "new" Cobra Civil War with all of these guys in it and it looked awesome. |

he said "a couple of years ago"...so it didn't happen, I mean if you have time to troll websites talking about joes...you've got time to set up a diorama, complete with backstory and post production photo editing.
However as to the original topic, I actually never gave much thought as to the different types of uniforms, I was concerned with "how does one become a viper or EEL etc" and overall understanding the career path of the many types of cobra troops...but this has given me something to contemplate. |

I have a story/ theme and an organization... it is likely the most nerdy thing in my life and I could fill the thread with it. It is honestly daunting to think about posting it all so I might pop in and out and do it in small bites

Deep sigh, and shake my head. I don't troll web-sites, I visit sites that I enjoy; where there are usually intelligent posts. It "did" happen, but unfortunately I don't have any saved pictures( I looked ). I don't set up Dios for others entertainment, I do it because it is fun for my son and I; and occasionally I send pictures from my phone to friends. We took down that dio which was cool and replaced it with one that is far better. We made a Cobra castle/base which we still have displayed. I don't post pictures on line much anymore( other than E-Bay ). I am not a fan of Social Media and comments like yours Nictus is why. To call someone a liar you don't even know is pretty freaking rude. However if you would like pictures of my "current" Cobra diorama just let me know. I would be happy to post them just to prove you wrong.
