The fact that they have to "explain" the future of their oldest brand means that they yet again have no idea what to do with it

Now THAT would be a great property for a shared Hasbro universe.

I guess what has got me less then enthused by this is that it seems Hasbro has shifted their view of their business; once they primarily made toys and created media to support it but now it the opposite where they are banking more on media rather then the toys themselves. I have a feeling that whatever they come out with will be less then what I would expect from them.
But, I am old and no longer the demographic for toys.

but, you probably should be. toyark is one article after another aimed toward us. and we're all buying. the market is viable.
whatevs, g.i. joe is dead. long live g.i. joe. I would like the concept case to be done in it's entirety, though. Last edited by Dragasses; 02-13-2016 at 01:19 AM.. |

While the words story and characters got thrown around a bit you have to wonder why wait this far into the Hasbro film universe before going oh duh people wanting interesting stories and compelling characters in movies. What's next a claim of characters fans can recognize instead of totally reinventing the wheel?
Short of just rebooting the whole Hasbro film universe it feels like the ship has already sailed. It's just going to hamstring other production teams if they have to try to fix things instead of giving them a fresh start. It would be like if Marvel decided they had to stick with events from the 1990 Captain America movie or David Hasselhoff had to play Nick Fury forever. It's easy to claim everything is going to be better, they pretty much say that every Transformers film. Going to need more than just hope they are going to have to prove somehow that better isn't just another empty promise they can't keep. |

As others have said, GI Joe is Hasbro and Hasbro is GI Joe. I only vaguely remember ROM and don't recall Visionaries at all. Micronauts were cool but I didn't really associate them with Hasbro. And Mask, while popular among the GI Joe fans is certainly not in the same league. Almost everyone knows GI Joe, only kids of the 80s know about Mask. Not that it isn't a viable or interesting concept, it just isn't in GI Joe's league.
Also, GI Joe is action figures, and action figures are GI Joe. Without General Colton, we don't have Steve Austin, Mego, or Star Wars. Anyway, we will see what happens. Oh, and no, on the concept case Rock and Roll. No removable hat, and needs bigger muscles. I will show myself to the door. |
